You know, I saw something this weekend (and again today since I drove past it again this afternoon) that I think is a really neat idea. I was wondering if this has been done in other cities/towns. I figure it probably has, since it is such a wonderful idea.
I am assuming that most of you are familiar with those old "courtyard motels" from back in the, I guess 1950's. The kind that are just one floor, kind of "cottage" style, where they all face in towards the parking lot.
This one old motel has been turned into a rather eclectic shopping center. It doesn't have your every day average stores...more of the one-of-a-kind type of store. Specialty boutiques, etc. At least, I'm guessing that is the kind, since I didn't actually drive up into it, just saw it in passing and realized what it was.
That seems like a really neat way to revitalize those old buildings, without having to tear down the eyesores and put up something "modern". There is a real "flavor" about the old couryard motels that just seems to suit this kind of enterprise.
For those of you who live in San Antonio, it is on Broadway, down by Brackenridge Park. If you come from Loop 410, it is in the right side of the road. If you get to Half Price Books, you've gone too far.
