I love haiku, always have, so imagine my surprise when I discovered the haiku's more flexible and entertaining older sister!

Renga were chain poems, all different classes of people used to write them together. Each verse of 5/7/5/7/7 becomes one stanza of a larger work that can grow up to a hundred stanzas long!

Feel free to be sassy, creative, funny, irritating or (gasp) serious or (wink) sexy.

Hours after sunset
Sirens serenade the young
As they venture home
Phone screens mirrored in their eyes
Stumbling and seeing double

The last door closes
Raindrops dance on wet asphalt
What is this silence?
There is not a soul alive
To put words to the music.

None see the clouds part
Soothe the lonely moon with words
None will name the stars
Because their eyes are dazzled
By false lights that never fade
