If you get a cat who is a year old and is already named, and knows her name, is it ok cat etiquette to change it?

You should be okay with renaming it. We give our cats lots of pet names, and they respond to most of them.

Teach it the finger trick, rubbing thumb and middle and index fingers, seems to work very will with getting htem to come to you.

I don't see why not; we change the twins' names weekly. They adapt pretty quickly and they're only two.

Porbably once would be okay, but not to keep changing it. It may develop into a kitty complex, not knowing who he/she is.
Ummm, my cats have all answered to their names...

I thought those twins were human twins.... if they're cats, they're remarkably dextrous to use crayons.

Why would you want to change their names?

You own a cat that actually responds to it's name?

About 70% of the time, Caspian comes when I just think about him. Pretty weird. He always comes when called. Might take 3 minutes sometimes :)

They are; same principle :D

It could be worse...people like Pikaboo Street and River Phoenix didn't even HAVE names until they were old enough to choose them themselves!

If you call all your cats "kitty", as in "here kitty kitty kitty" and "good kitty!" and "what a sweet kitty you are", while simultaneously rubbing the sweet spot, they'll never need another name.

Okay. Well. Yeh. At the Vet's office, they'll look at you like you're a murderer if you tell them your cat has no name but you only see those people a couple times a year, right?

My cat doesn't know her name is "Angel" but comes running when you call for "kitty".

It is okay.... My cats each have alternate names...

Pumkin.. Doo da, Pumpkie, diddy do

Rudy...... Baga (as in rutabaga), Toots, Roo doo, Princess

Atticus.... Mr. Man, Fatticus, Bitchicus, or we endearingly mimick him as..... Rrrrreeeeeoooooooowwwww!

Earl Grey.... Grey Grey, Early Grace (Brad Pitt's Character in Kalifornia), Cream Puffed Champange Butt.

Claudius... Clawdig, Claw Claw, Peruvian tree kitty, fluffers, Plume butt.

They respond to all of them.

It may take a bit, but you call her her old name, and slip in the new one, and just increase the use of it, and drop the other, when she gets it.
