I am a new author.

I published one story but now see it as the first chapter of a novel.

Can I rename it and put it in the novel category?

Or should I resubmit it with a new name and category?

I would prefer to keep the story and simply change he name and category so i do not lose the ratings.

If you're going to post the chapters individually, there is no need to do anything, except add "Ch. 02" to the next submission. Then subsequent chapter should be numbered accordingly. The system will handle grouping the separate chapters together. You can even post the different chapter in different categories based on what is going on in the chapters.

Usually the novel category is used to just submit the completed work all at once. Although I guess some authors post individual chapters too.

I have one novel length work, but posted the chapters individually to a single category as the work was a Sci-Fi novel.

If you do choose to re-title and re-categorize you can resubmit and add EDIT to the end of the title. Also in the notes field of the submission form add a note of what you expect to accomplish, move, re-title, etc. so Laurel will know what to do with it.

Good luck and Welcome to the nut house.

What Zeb said.

If you do post different chapters to different categories, might be an idea to let readers know in advance where they can find it all. Otherwise they may miss it, if the follow-ups aren't where they expect.

Hi, Lilian and welcome to the Ah.

Changing the category is no problem. Resubmit and include the new cat. and include the info in the "Notes" field that it is a change of category. If you resubmit it and change the name, there is a good chance you will end up with the same story posted twice under two different names, even though you explain the change in the "Notes."

In some cases, although probably not this one, you would not be able to change the cat. Management chooses the category, usually following the suggestion of the author, and sometimes they will not change it.
