Remove a story.

Ever since I have received a spew of hatemail. I was wondering if anyone knows how to remove a story of your own from the site. There is an edit option, but I can't find one for delete.

Any help?

What you need to do is resubmit the story with the word Delete at the end of the title. Also put a not in the notes box saying you want it deleted.

Submit it as you normally would, and just like a normal submission it takes about 3-4 days to go away.

I would think about it though, I mean if you like the story why do you care about trolls You can shut off the public comments, and voting there are options for that.

Oh yeah...you posted in the BDSM category. I've read that those readers are very particular about accuracy compared to other categories. Less flexibility among the loyal readership as it is very specialized, and obvious if an author isn't "into it."

The public comments actually seem okay (I ignore the "You are sick!" anonymous one). I wouldn't call it hate mail, it's pretty good array of responses, it got the reader to actually *think* about the story....but then I also don't know what you've received privately.

Still, your choice, and it is possible to delete a story if you'd like to take it down.

Yeah, well it's sitting at 2.92, something is wrong.

It was my first attempt at BDSM and I guess I got it disastrously wrong.

whoa there! That is not the answer! No taking your ball and going home here young man! This story is a learning curve.

I have corresponded with you and read your work. You have the right frame of mind for BDSM, its your experience and understanding that is lacking.

BDSM crowd smells "poser" a mile away. You got the skills you need the mind set. Read some stories off of the top lists or better yet start ghosting the BDSM forums. There are some real deal people over there and you can learn a lot.

Don't quit young Jedi, just learn at the feet of the masters.

It's just that I havent been able to grasp it as a concept, yet (as you would expect from a 21 y/o virgin nerd).

Let's just call this a bad one-time thing.

Absolutely agree with this. I know it is hard when people are hard on your "baby". As writers we put part of ourselves in every story so when people reject a story they are rejecting you and that can be hard to take.

Your story was compelling and disturbing. It did hold my attention throughout though and that is half of the battle right there. I think your weakest point in that particular story is characterization but then again it is damned hard to fit that in when you are dealing with flash fiction. Flash fiction is really hard (I know I can't do it...too long winded me

The more you write the better you get at it. That is fact. I know it is hard not to be discouraged but I think you do have talent and it would just be a damned shame to have you quit before you really explored what you can do.

BDSM is difficult to get the balance right. Most of my stories tread the shallow end and your story was at the complete opposite end of the spectrum. I find the more I write though the more I get comfortable with situations that at first I found difficult. Keep writing. Also I find that reading other writer's stuff really helps (even reading stories that I don't particularly like helps me understand that intangible link that is there between a couple in a BDSM scene. For me it is that link that is endlessly fascinating....)

I know it's hard but I really do think it would be a shame to quit now.

Bellatrxie and lovecraft 68 do offer good advice. Consider their words.

At 21 years of age, I can say with confidence that you'll be surprised what sorts of mindsets you can come to understand with time. All it takes is curiosity and not running away completely (though taking a step back to reconsider the method is usually a good thing).

If experience lacks in BDSM right now, but you want to try again, you can always show it to someone "in the know" prior to posting it, ask for pointers.

Of course I wouldn't throw that out there without being willing to offer pointers.... I have some experience in BDSM and do get the mindset, though I don't live the lifestyle fully as some do.

Or...read the forums and some of their top stories. They're pretty good at expressing themselves, better than many people because it takes trust and actual self-exploration to understand and accept why they embrace BDSM. Like Bellatrixie said, it's fascinating.

I agree with all who suggest not letting the naysayers drive you out. Sometimes it's just a matter of people hazing the newest guy on the block to see how he'll react--if you take a licking and keep on ticking, they may ease up on you. And if you switch to another category, you'll probably leave the naysayers behind.

Still, if deletingthe story is really your choice, not one that's being imposed on you by trolls, Etaski's suggestion will nearly always work. In the odd chance that it doesn't, you can send a PM (not an e-mail) to Laurel and ask that your story be deleted as soon as possible. Laurel and Manu are really good about heeding requests from Lit members.

You could also take the constructive feedback and find yourself an editor who really knows BDSM, then edit your story and re-post the improved version.

I didn't read your piece, but from what others have said, it doesn't sound like it's a lost cause worthy of deletion. So, maybe it would be good for you to spruce it up so it has more appeal to legitimate readers.

I think you can turn off email feedback, too, if you're getting bothersome messages.

Wow... you guys seem to have more faith in me than I do.

Don't worry, I know I can write. I have stories sitting pretty above 4.7 and 4.8 (other categories). This was a...... well I don't know what to call it. Think of it as an experiment that went wrong. As a programmer, I am used to writing thousands of lines of code only to find that the end result does not work, so not an unfamiliar feeling.

The main issue here is this- I really know nothing about what I am dealing with. In fact, I don't even know enough about regular sex. My stories, as they stand, are non erotic stories with sex inserted every once in a while.

Thanks for all the encouragement, but I think I'll stick to my decision. You can expect more stories from me in the forthcoming days, just no more BDSM.
