Does anyone here remember life before pantyhose? All women and girls wore garter belts and hose. The hose were all seamed. Quite lovely site to see.

No, not only do I not remember a time before pantyhose, but I remember deciding to never wear them again because they are horrid.

I'm all about garters and stockings, though.

I remember when UK women couldn't get stockings and used to stain their legs with a line down the back to imitate stockings.

One of my uncles had a market stall in Bethnal Green market in the 1940s. He acquired some stockings from a dubious source and sold them 'under the counter' when the Police were not around. At the time, he was very popular with his female relations.

Pantyhose must be my least favourite American word. A hose is something firemen use. Panty is a weird extrapolation of pants, which are trousers. How come adding a 'y' to trousers makes them underwear?

Although I'm not anywhere near old enough to rememeber a time when pantyhose didn't exist, personaly I never wear them, as I find them too uncomfortable and restrictive. Even though I am aware that some men find them sexy, to me they seem like a more modern form of chastity belt. When I do wear coverings on my legs with skirts and dresses, I always wear either thigh high stockings that hold themselves up with a band of elasticized lace at the top, or a garter belt (straps, for you Brits) with stockings. Those kinds of hose make me feel free & sensuous, even if no one knows I'm wearing them but me. And when the weather allows, I usually prefer to leave my legs bare.

Not all women wore garter belts with their stockings. Some wore girdles, both open bottom and close crotch with support extending down the thighs. Nasty items of clothing. It was always nice to see garter bumps when women wore tight skirts.

I remember my mom wearing stockings in the 50's. I would watch her role them up to her thighs then straighten the seams and put the snaps on them. Don't know if she wore garters or girdles. I do know by the time I was twelve and she caught me masturbating, she wouldn't let me watch anymore. My first wife hated pantyhose, she only wore stockings and garters. She did let me watch...lol

Due to a medical condition I could only wear thigh highs with a garter. If anyone knew they must have thought I was quite naughty but I just couldn’t stand any pressure on my belly.
