Or catastraphe will abound. All manner of evil will be released.

Ok, a slight exaggeration, but you will be the subject of snickering and harsh glaring by the more fashionably astute among us.

I plan to wear an entire white ensemble today, kinda like Jimmy Swaggart. White nine west sandals, capris, and a tank top. No...that's too contrived, plus Jimmy Swaggart is more into the leisure suit. Ok, tight faded blue jeans, white sandals & a white tank.

The sandals are key. I won't be able to wear them again until mid-May. So I'm gonna wear them today until I have blisters and corns. I may even fuck in them later.

Oh yeah, 2" white leather sandals the day before Labor Day.

damn right, lisalover....esp. no white lingerie....only colors....matching colors please....

Hrrumph! I'll wear white when I please - and so will my spouse - he looks so sexy in his white business shirts and suit and tie...And I do enjoy helping him take it all off...

i read somewhere that wearing white after labor day is no longer true

So if I wear white after labor day I will cease to exist? I better find some colored underwear, real quick.

Oh IA, you dear sweet innocent. *sigh* this is what it has come to? It's a seasonal thing. Just like I wouldn't wear lime green in the winter or brown in the summer. *shrugs* I guess it's just me.

Damn...now those too? I have to ditch my lime green wool suit? And mom picked it out for me. She will be so hurt.

Dammit! I just bought linen pants at Banana Republic's!!!!

Shoes.

Its all about shoes!! You can wear white shirts, but NO white shoes after Labor Day. Ah, well. White pants and skirts are taboo after that too, but why else would they make white winter sweaters if you couldn't wear them? No white shoes I tell ya.

But underwear, Allexus...underwear???? I need an answer on that question. I just hate to show up in the wrong colored underwear, and be laughed at during the first orgy of autumn. (Like that never happened before.)

Go commando. That'll solve all of your problems.

I have a question... I was wondering this the other day, and honey and I couldn't figure out what the answer was:

WHY aren't we supposed to wear white after Labour Day? What's the history behind it?

I have sensitive skin. And I have a paranoid fear of zipper accidents.

wearing white

a public outcry shall occur..your fashion sense will delagated to the back pages of all true members of LIT. society.
the wearing of white after the close of the season, show,s either you don't have a handle on what time of year it is OR otherwise the wardrobe you have is lacking, and it's time to go shopping .:D

Well then, you're ficked.

It's fear of not getting ficked that makes me afraid of zippers. It happens so rarely I'd hate to be on the injured reserve list when the opportunity arises.

Both of which apply to me.

Found this explanation:

"The best and most logical explanation appeared in an article written in the Chicago Tribune last December. Nancy Penn, an image consultant, explained that there was a practical reason for not wearing white shoes after Labor Day. “Black absorbs heat, so it’s actually warmer, which is why it’s more traditional in colder climates (hence darker coats and shoes in winter). White, on the other hand, reflects light and heat, and is usually cooler.”

My dear friend, Ellen, suggested something similar. She pondered that it may have originated in Europe many hundreds of years ago. Her musings included the explanation that in the colder, rainier weather white would become soiled easily. In the warmer days, which witnessed less rain, white clothing/ shoes could stay cleaner longer."

I don't own any white shoes, so I have never run into this problem.
