Married to an American but his wife decided not to move with him when he accepted his present position.

The term has just started, the usual mix of students have taken his classes. Most seem uninterested & lazy.

Jessica looked over her schedule. She had registered for her classes late so she hadn't got to pick most of her classes or the times that was one of the joys of having to move. She hated being the new girl. Even though this was college and mostly everyone was new at least most others had come with friends she had come completely alone and making friends was never easy for her. She looked down at her schedule. This semester she had Algebra I, English Lit., Womens Studies and Spanish. She had just the bare minimum of 12 credits which made her a full time student and insured her parent's health insurance still covered her.

Matthew looked at his watch, 5 minutes before the students would scamble undignified out of the door & out of his classroom. He looked at the list of names of his students & then tried to match them with the bored faces in front of him. Only one student seemed even remotely awake & interested. He looked at the names again & matched the name Jessica Saunders to the face.
He got up slowly, wrote something on the top papper & walked up & down between the students giving out the pappers with a list of books that should be read.
When he came to Jessica he gave her the papper with the note written on it.
It said simply 'see me later'.
"Ok, that's all for now, don't wait too long before you get the books" he addressed the class.
Without saying any more, or looking at Jessica he took his books & joined the scamble out of the door.

Jessica looked down at the paper confused. See me later She hadn't been here that long what could she have possibly done wrong so soon into the semester. She reread it a few times before stuffing it into her notebook and leaving the empty class room. She figured she would find him after lunch and see what he wanted.

Matthew sighed audibly as he entered his office, kicked the door shut & slumped into his chair.
He wondered what he would achieve this term, badgering unwilling students to discover the teasure of English literature.
He looked at his watch again. One more class before lunch, then he would wait to see if Jessica would come.
