I expect to be moving to the next county soon. It is about sixty miles away.

Keeping in mind that I have two children, what do I need to take into consideration before settling on a locale and how to find out what I want to know?

For example: Quality education is high on the list. How do I know which schools provide a decent education?

Have any of you ever made a move with only a few weeks notice?

Feel free to jump in with your thoughts and suggestions.

Having no idea were you are

Visit the schools. See how well kept they are and ask when the last time an addition was put on. Ask what the teacher to student ratio is. Ask how education bond issues have done in the last few elections.

#1: If you are in a cold climate avoid a place with a long driveway (think shoveling).

#2: If you have some trees around, see what's behind them, when fall comes you don't want a surprise.

#3: Visit the house during rush hour. Drive around the neighborhood. Are you a million miles from the supermarket? Are their people out and about on the sidewalks? How about at night? Don't live near a fire station if you're a light sleeper.

That's all that pops into my head.

ok, this might be more of a personal thing but i figured i'd post it anyway.

i happen to be in love with floor vents. in the winter, i put on a longish dress and just sit on them. omg, that is just HEAVEN for me. so anyway, the types of heating/cooling systems in a house are varied and many, so check that out. is there a room that might get stuffy? cold? can you feel a draft from closed windows?

just my 2cents!

Well if you're going that route...

See how high the kitchen counters are.

Is there a fenced in back yard with a tree that has a nice sturdy limb that a rope can be tied to? There is nothing better than a place to take your sub for a good switching, than out to the switchin' tree. You know, they need a good switchin' from time to time.

Nekid, hands bound behind her back, ankles bound together...make her walk out to the tree like that...the condemmed walking to her fate. Tie her hands to the tree so she has to bend forward. If you are good at your work, you might have to use a gag, too, unless you want the neighbors listening.

Is there a basement with a room that has a locking door, like a dungeon? A room with metal loops secured to the wall for a good floggin' from time to time.

Nekid and tied...make her walk down to the room like that...the condemmed walking to her fate. Shackle her hands to the loops so she has to stretch on tip toes. If you are good at your work, you might have to use a gag, too, unless you want the neighbors listening.

Can people drive in the snow? If the answer is yes, I don't want to live there.

Is there a room with beamed ceilings, that can have an eyebolt mounted to one. 10 foot ceilings are best, but an 8 foot ceiling will do, in a pinch. Lots of fun can be had with one of those eyebolts. Yes, I have one.

Umm unfortunately, yes!

:D

IN fact, I will be further into the snow belt than i am now. *sigh*

So have to consider chosing a location that will still let me get to work on bad days as some roads close often.

Grrr maybe I should have gone with my original plan and moved down south.

As some will advertise for housing that is equipped for handicapped individuals, should I advertise for housing that is BDSM ready?

:D

Geesh...you have a one track mind, oh Devious One!

poor you... i moved twice every year for the past four years.
1998 and 2002 i moved to a different country. i never knew how much stuff you accumulate over the years.

Thanks, I am visiting a school tomorrow. They may be able to put me in touch with good day care and landlords as well?

:)

Hello there MissT, what I did before I moved was to go to yahoo and put public schools + "county name" and found out the info that way.

There is a site that can tell you everything about the schools, but I cant seem to find it. I'll be back if I can get to it again.

btw, I can drive in the snow now. :)

As far as daycare, what I did was to go to: http://www.respond.com/buyers/reque...th=212&path=1604023310&bd=11&src=4419241&db=1 its down now, so you might have to wait, but in 15 mins, I had found the perfect daycare provider for my 3 kidlets.

Wait, are yout talking private school or public. If you are looking at private schools see if they offer scholarships and how many people are applying if they have them. Either can tell you about day care I bet, I wouldn't think they know all about landlords. Try the police, chamber of commerce, and better business bureau. Read the local papers and see who is fighting with the planning board. God I'm a dork.

Do you think Yankees just stay in their houses all winter?

being tall, I have never had to think about that sort of thing. Some things you just don't know about, huh?

And, I assume there are "normal" heights for such things, but that only goes for when professional installed them. If it was the home owner, maybe they were really short, or really tall, and customized it for themselves.

I think sometimes the same applies to steps. Most are a certain height, and seem normal. But, sometimes there are some even I need stilts for, or there are so many, it makes me wonder why they had so many. Even with the normal steps, I usually skip every other on, when I go up. Just something I have done all my life.

The funny things you get used to...

So, you shorter people...do you find the height of things to be about the same, or is there a lot of different heights, when talking about counters and cabinets, and such?

Oh, sorry, if this is taking the thread sideways. I don't know if MissTaken is short, tall, or inbetween.

Somehow I don't think that was the concern when kitchen counters were mentioned!

there are cabnits in my house that i have never seen the inside of. i'm five feet tall, and i have to climb on the kitchen counters to access things. there's these two cabnits above the fridge that, even on a chair, i can't reach. *pouts*

awww take the thread wherever you like.

Now, the safe answer is that I am in between -ish!

5'5"

Okay. I am short, dammitall!

:D

(But mom is 4'10" and the other women in my family are 5'-5'2". so I am a giant at family reunions!)
