I'm religious is a way too subjective notion.

What about Buddhists? Or people who practice individually and do volunteer work, take classes, etc.

I'd say people who sit sesshin or go to temple or the zen center or whatever are religious and people who just kind of think it and meditate on their own are spiritual.

When I think "religious," I still think belief in a God or a higher power. Attendance or practice to me means "observant." "Spiritual" to me means you do yoga instead of going to church. Kidding, sort of.

I was raised Brethren, my parents were raised Episcopalean(sp?) and United Union or something. I spent a year in catholic school, and my sister is best friends with the Local Rabbi's daughter where my mom goes on friday nights. Oh, and the Youth Leader at my parent's church is Greek Orthodox.

I have a deep fear and mistrust of anyone who is a fundementalist religious type.

This includes right wing christians AND muslims alike.

I recently shared a house with various people, one of whom was an evangelical christian jamaican.
Once he found out that i was lesbian he made it clear that he disaproved cos the good lord says ...............blah blah blah.

On one occasion i had a girl friend sleep over one night and he went balistic and said i was the whore of babylon, a slag and would rot and burn in hell when jesus comes again. He said i had ruined the sanctity of the house and made it impossible for him to have church friends to call.

He would never bath or shower but prefered to wash while wearing his clothes so the devil wouldnt be tempted by the sight of his bare flesh. He walked round the house with a bible in one hand, and often dropped religious phrases into conversation. "Did you have a good day"? Nah, ......."There but for the grace of god............... John, 6.3"

Mentally ill in my opinion but also a great danger to any one who doesnt fit his sick twisted view of life and that scares me.

Most religions have a dim view of gays and lesbians and i detest the hypocrycy
