Religion? Ask an atheist!

I heard about that. They brought up some of the questions about christianity and I knew all of them.

But they said that athiests did better at questions about christian beliefs then the majority of CHRISTIANS!

That is sad, but not hugely surprising.

I missed 6, 7, 11, and 15.

And I'm rather grossed out by the correct answer to 6.

Ew.

I still did better than 80% of the general public.

I missed the last question about the awakening, but I had to guess the ones about the school in the US and what's allowed there and what isn't. The rest of the questions were in my opinion pretty basic stuff.

Here we have religion as a subject in school, but I had ethics instead, because my parents and myself are not members of any religion, so I don't know exactly what is taught there. I always had the feeling in school, that those who took ethics actually got to learn more about religions than the ones who took religion, because I guess in religion they concentrate more on their own religion and culture and talk less about the others. But to me religion is mostly just history and cultural knowledge, and that's something IMO everyone should be aware of.

After the fifteen bajillion spam emails advocating pre-arranged "spontaneous" prayer in public schools, all I can say is-- where were you in the late 1990's?

LOL - I got my GED in '96 and promptly moved on to adult hood. That's also the same year I left the church.

Before that, however, I was a bible thumper to the n-th in a very small, very conservative, very right wing, very christian farming community. As in, as a freshman my classmates got together and ran out the new teacher because our global studies books didn't agree with the church. And we're not even going to talk about how well it went over when the school district "demanded" that the very liberal, free-thought-is-a-good-thing science teacher teach evolution and not creationism...

*shrugs*
Nobody cared if we prayed. Hell, I use to sit in the court yard at lunch and work on my Sunday school teaching plan.

I got 11/15.

I stopped going to religious education (we had it once a week) in about grade 3 of primary school so I'm pretty happy with that, even if I know who Vishnu and Shiva are because I pay attention to Raj on Big Bang, and I knew Joseph Smith was a Mormon, thanks to South Park.

;)

15 for 15! Extra toaster waffles for me!

Thanks for the extended test, Stella.

Demon education.

No wonder you dug the "religion fetish" thread that's now lay dormant for some months.

I got 14 correct - i must have clicked to fast because I didn't answer one. The bible as literature - i knew the answer.

Yay for indoctrination at an early age. And for being a smartbutt who just needed to double check on the crap my teachers spewed about other religions LOL

10 out of 15, but I'm not an American (and I didn't want to look things up).

:D
Partly... Mostly it's because I have a religious fetish, though.

Did I mention when I bottom for a demonstration that my Mistress is preforming at an upcoming kinky carnival I shall be doing so dressed as a nun?

I only got 9, and got wrong both the american rules ones (obviously). Turns out I'm way better at non-christian religious stuff. Where the hell were my Wicca questions?!

14/15, missed the Bible figure who suffered, but I should have known that. I attribute this to my upbringing. I was raised UU, a religion that promotes education and inquiry. I'm an atheist now, but UU Sunday School consists of things like learning about other religions, so I grew up learning the stuff on this quiz.

The suffering guy is the one I knew because of Netzach & Rosco! Somewhere on this board, they explain what's up with him.

I had no religious upbringing at all, but for this type of quiz I don't think that matters. I consider it more general knowledge stuff - picked up from reading the newspaper, watching Charlton Heston movies, and visiting museums.

It's like asking very basic questions about Mozart, Jimi Hendrix, and Yo-Yo Ma. You don't have to major in music or play an instrument to know that stuff.

Ah, but if it were basic knowledge stuff, I think the people who were counted in the statistics would have done better.

Ha. I don't take the results as commentary on level of religious training; I take them as proof that most Americans don't read a decent newspaper.

That, too. I take it, mostly, as an education thing in America. Most of what I know about that stuff, I taught myself.

Yep. These questions are more Jeopardy type stuff. My knowledge is broad and barely deep enough to canoe, because I get most of my information from newspapers, and my cultural touchstones from old Warner Brothers cartoons.

:D
