A thread with a religious email cut pasted into it turned into something a bit more. I brought my thoughts into a new thread because I didn't want to 'muck' up the other one with them.

What I read in the original content was our right to pray and be respected for it. It does upset me that prayer has all but been eliminated from our schools, so instead I teach my child to bow his head and pray before he eats. I live in a small community where they hold a prayer service at the opening of the Little League season, the coaches pray with their team before they head out onto the field. The same goes for football and basketball sporting events. Those who do not believe in God, or even Christians version of God.. simply bow their heads in respect and use that moment for private reflection.

Someone said that Christians need to act superior to others. It amazes me that people, intelligent people, make such generalizations about one religion. There are the good and the bad in all walks of life, religions and belief systems. I don't doubt that there aren't some Christians who do feel as though they are superior; who act smug because others who are not believers will be in the firey pits of Hell while they are living in the comfort of Heaven. But don't make the mistake that all Christians feel this way.

I respect people, no matter what their belief system is.. if they choose not to pray I don't condemn them for not. All I ask for in return is to be allowed to express my religious convictions without condemnation or to be stereotyped.

Prayer has not been eliminated from schools. The establishment of religion has been eliminated from schools. Don't muddle the two. They're extraordinarily different.

Why should everyone who isn't a Christian just 'deal with it'? How about if we say a prayer to Satan, instead, and you Christiansjust bow your heads out of respect...would you?

You're absolutely correct DCL.

Children are still permitted to pray, it just isn't part of the 'morning' ritual of starting the school day off.

That morning ritual, guided by a teacher, which is, in effect, a representative of Federal authority, is an unconstitutional act that every Christian should support because it could just as easily be used to recognize frog worshipping.

I think that you two misread what I said.

I didn't say they must or even should. I was speaking from what I've seen personally in my own community. That those who do not believe do this.

Johnny I never said anyone should just deal with it.

And that upsets you? You want every child to start the day off with prayer even if that prayer isn't part of their belief system?

Yeah, I would bow my head and pray for your salvation. ;)

Take Jesus Christ and ram him up your bigot cunt, kitty.
and they say the world would be a better place if all Religon was banned....what a dumbass. Yes Troper I mean you

Kitty I understand where you are coming from with this. I am not a christian by any stretch of the imagination, but I will say that it seems in todays world of PC and tolerance Christians get a bad rap. As a rule they are just good honest people looking to for some faith based value system to hold near and dear. On the fringe there are zealots and bigots, but then again, is this not true of everything in this muddled universe?

Why can't they say a prayer of their belief system?

Maybe because, while we respect your right to believe, we really don't respect your beliefs? That could be it...*shrugs*
So.....? That is their right. Why pitch a fit about it?

Do you?

I think that I have been very repsectful in this thread and in the other. How much respect have I been given in return? And yes.. I am a Christian so doesn't that go against the stereotype that's been stated?

Topher you really don't know me if you consider that I'm a bigot.

You seem to imply it, though. You said 'Those who do not believe in God, or even Christians version of God.. simply bow their heads in respect and use that moment for private reflection.'...why can't that include Christians? Why should there be a Christian prayer, and anyone else should just bow their heads and pray silently or not. It would be more American to simply have a moment of silence, and show equal respect for all beliefs.

No offense, but save it for someone who cares, ok?
Nah, I can ask for the enlightenment of anyone in my prayers, because they are just that... mine.

Why are you getting so hostile? I simply answered your question with an honest answer.

They can do that now. She said she was upset over the whole morning prayer ritual not being in place. (I hope I'm not getting people confused here)

give him credit, he proved your point with just a few keystrokes and a total lack of intelligence.
