Well for those who aren't into guitar business: it has become somewhat of an out-of-control fad to have pre-damaged instruments for sale. Mostly Fender-style instruments that are artificially aged to look like real vintage fifties or sixties made instruments. They call those instruments "Relics"

This is a Genuine 1964 Fender Stratocaster, sunburst finish.

And this is a Modern day Fender Custom shop Stratocaster Relic

While I'm on the fence about those things, the guitars look killer and most of the time offer the vibe of a real Vintage Fender for a smidge of the price of what a real one would fetch and they are often better instruments than the originals.

But having said that, there are people who take it too far, there's a picture of a guitar being dragged behind a car to make it look aged. Some even set fire to their instruments to make them look aged.

So to make fun of that whole thing I doused a pack of strings in paint thinner and set it alight, making myself a relic-ed pack of strings.
