Red Sox Rule!

Baseball, like most sports, is foreign to me (not just because I'm a Brit, btw, but the concept of doing any is like speaking Sumerian)

I'm confused by the title of the team as well. Did the mother of a player have an accident with the laundry or something?

I don't know why the socks are red. Maybe it's something mundane, like that's what color they were on the original team's uniforms. Maybe Tath or Tzara or Pat knows. Not me.

I'm not a big fan of spectator sports myself. I can't quote stats like so many guys can. My idea of playing sports is all about using the rower and weight training eqipment at my local gym. But there's something about baseball. Maybe it's the pace of the game or the time of year it's played--from spring training then games all summer and the championships in October. Maybe it's the game's rich history, from the earliest turn-of-the-century teams and the Negro Baseball Leagues, the traveling barnstormers through the integration of the Brooklyn Dodgers with Roy Campamella and the great Jackie Robinson.

I suppose it's my personal history, too. Such beautiful memories of sitting in the kitchen with my dad, drinking root bear and listening to the Dodgers on the radio. :)

Baseball players are icons to me, metaphors uniquely American. That's why I love writing about the game.

But mainly, aren't those Sox just amazin? :rose:

How about those black crows? I have black crows outside.
One is a little red, though, from getting beaked by his buddy.

go red crows...

I had a pair of red sox once. The cat unit chewed em up and spat crimson furballs for a week.

Think I'll dig up "Shake Your Money Maker."

Black Crowes indeed.

They're still playing baseball?

After 14 years with Atlanta in post season play, the Braves missed the cut for a second straight year. Oh the tragedy!

Looks like this year's Series result is a given. There's always the image of a team whose uniform consists solely of red socks — but those bats!

Did you know that last night was the first time a Canadian pitcher started since 1975? Too bad he lost too. :p

Here's the origin of the name, though this is probably the most famous red sock of all.

Thank you for the info T-man. That bloody red sock photo shows up everywhere. I had to take one of the kids I was working for to the podiatrist and he had the photo framed and hanging on the waiting room wall. I found that a bit odd.

Sigh.

Were you aware that the monkey is going to write "I am a slut" (or "I am a Red Sox Slut," not sure which) on his chest for you?

Yeah and he is supposedly their ace pitcher. Doesm't sound so good for the Rockies, but you never know. Especially with the Red Socks.

I want a photo! :D

Congratulations, Sox fans.

Personally, I was hoping the Rockies would win (Seattleites love underdogs, since we never win anything other than "Best Place to Live in America" polls), but, y'know, que sera sera. (Curiously, that phrase seems to not be a real one. It seems rather to have been captured from a pseudo-romance language. Portugalicean, perhaps?)

No matter.

Enjoy the high, Bostonians and local empathizers. You also look quite well positioned to celebrate come January with Super Bowlishness as well.

I'm not really jealous. I'm not.

It's just it's been a while since I've eaten and I'm just a smidgenly peckish.

Low blood sugar. That's what explains the crankiness.

It wouldn't have bothered me so much if the Rockies won. I only really hate the Yankees. I actually felt bad for them the last few nights because it's embarrassing to make the kinds of defensive errors they made, to strand guys on base so many times.

And the Sox really deserved to win. It wasn't a Dave & Manny show, The whole team was amazing. They just outplayed Colorado. Now if they just re-sign Lowell and keep Ellsbury in regular play, maybe they'll win again next year. :)

Here, have a bagel. Mit a schmear.
