I know this is probably buried in FAQ somewhere, but I haven't come across it yet. How do some stories get the "Hot" icons? At random discretion of the editor, or based on ratings, or views, or what? I'd appreciate a link or just the answer, I've been curious about this for years.

Its based on score.

If a story is 4.5 or higher it gets a red H.

It also has to have ainimum of 10 votes to get that 4.5.

No it doesn't. You can get a 5 with the first vote, there is nothing stopping that from showing up before you get 10 votes.

Now if you mean the red H, that might be true, but I seem to remember getting the red H even with only 3 or 4 votes on some of the chapters of some of my stories.

So I have to say that's bogus also.

No, it's 10 votes and a 4.5 score. I wrote enough stories in humor and sci-fi back in the day to be able to see that happen with absolute certainty *laugh* That 10th vote would often be the only vote you'd get that day, so there was no doubt when the H appeared.

More likely these days the tenth vote is a 2.

It was the 11th, 12th, and 13th vote then, because it appeared on the top of the toplist with a perfect 5 score, and it would get dinged multiple times before the toplist updated to show the effects.

Then it would get swept, and go back to a perfect five. Then it would get dinged again.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Yeah that's what got me. My sci-fi stuff really never got a lot of votes but I got red H's pretty quick.

I thought to be listed in the top list you had to have 10 votes or more.

I know I was disappointed when I got my first red H, but wasn't in the top list because I didn't have 10 votes yet.

All I know is that it's been 10 votes as long as I've been here. I've never seen anything with fewer votes that had an H, no matter what the score was.

I agree. No H will appear until the entry has at least 10 votes.

The red H signifies 10 vetted LIT homosexuals approved your story. Its the homo seal of approval.

I've got a few poems that never got to five votes, but at one time one had a single 5 vote, and no red H.

misanthrope

I'm game. What's misanthropic about pointing to the Lit. troll propensity to bomb the tenth vote on a story that's rating well up to that point? Or, as is likely, do you just not know what the word "misanthrope" means or, which is also likely, couldn't comprehend my post, or, which is most likely, just decided to idiotically razz one of my posts completely out of context?
