Where are the COMMUNISTS in this story?
I mean, the AMERICAN Communists. You would expect Soviet invaders to hunt them up and use them as public spokespersons.
In fact, we don't see the Soviets doing ANYTHING to turn this conquered territory into a Communist society. They simply act like foreign conquerors, like the Romans, with no political agenda more sophisticated than that.
At the end of WWII, the Soviets hunted up Eastern European Communists who had survived the German occupation (easy to find -- they always were in communication with Moscow, when they could communicate safely), and put them in charge of the new Communist governments. Wouldn't they do something like that?
