Recommended Volunteer Editors?

I've been poking around this site (just discovered it... wonder where I've been?) for a while now, and haven't found any way to sort out the volunteer editors. The top page on the list helpfully suggests that you skim all of it before you choose to make contact with one in particular, but 4160 potential editors, ten per page, is a bit more than I can skim. Any helpful pointers?

Go to the sticky on the active editors of the current month at the top of the Editors forum and you'll see which ones are actively open for editing. Most of the editors you see on the full list of VEs are long gone. The VE system here is nearly defunct and isn't being maintained.

Thanks for the information; the VE thing was talked up in so much of the newbie material, I thought I should check it out. Unfortunate that its losing steam, but good to have the info. It would be good to clean out the VE list, but seems like it might also be a painful and time consuming process.
