Norton:

It was three in the morning, but one could not tell as such if they were with Norton. He sat in his lab, a multitude of florescent light cascading down from the ceiling. In front of him was an achievment like no other. A marvel of technology, built with his own hands. Every inch of circuitry, an endo skeleton designed to mimic every nuance of a human female. An inorganic flesh-like compound coating her, crafted in the image of a woman who no longer lived.

For all Norton cared, what sat before him was his dead wife, and he was about to breath new life into her. He held her arm by its wrist and placed an electonic stylus against a set of circuits contained within a small open patch of her skin. When he was done, he reached a hand out to her, running it along the back of her neck. His finger tips found the button that would allow him to activate her with the sound of his voice.

"Wake up dear." He spoke to her softly, admiring how perfectly she seemed to resemble the woman he'd lost. Slowly, a sort of conciousness flowed into this creature of perfection before him, and her eyes rose open, those perfect, stormy blue eyes that had always entranced him. "How do you feel?" Norton asked with a growing smile.

Rebecca:

Felt the energy flowing through her circuits. And someone telling her to wake up...

Her eyelids opened slowly, and blinked a few times. She looked up at the person who had awoken her. She tried out her voice, "I am... fine. I think I am fine. Who are you?"

She looked slowly at the man and then moved her eyes looking around the rest of the room that she was in.

Rebecca sat up quickly her hands up at her face framing them. "Where am I?! Who are you?!" She seems to be scared, for she dosen't know what is going on.

Norton:

"Calm, calm, you're still waking up, it will come back to you, all of it, just give it a moment." Norton spoke the truth, for in the next few minutes Rebecca's positronic brain accessed all of the memory files Norton had programed into her. "I am your husband, Norton... Do you remember? We have a daughter, today is her birthday..." Norton was knelt in front of her, caressing her hand as he looked up into her eyes.

Rebecca:

She imitates taking a deep breath in as she nods slowly. Moving a hand to rest on her husband's hand. "Yes I remember now." She seems a little slow in her talking as she accesses her memory. "Yes our daughter...Meggan... where is she Norton? Are we doing something special for her tonight?" She reachs up with her other hand and pushs some of her blonde hair out of her face, and behind her ear."

Meg

The party decorations were red and black, and Meggan was feeling a bit lightheaded from blowing up the balloons on the back patio where she was planning to have her 15th Birthday Bash.

NIN was blareing out of the speakers and Marlo and his bandmates were setting up the sound system and balanceing it to maxium annoyance for the neighbors.

"Where's your dad?" Beth, yelled to Meg.

"Who knows, who cares." Meg shrugged. "I've got everything I need for the party and he's invited. It's up to him to show up."

Meg brushed her too long bangs out of her eyes and surveyed the area. The pool was lit with little candles floating in it, food was laid out on the tables, the guys where setting up a stage.

"Come on, let's get dressed and made up." Meg tossed the last balloon onto the brickwork. "I want to look wicked deadly tonight."

"Sure." Beth followed her into the ranch house. As a house went it was the best money could buy. But Beth had to agree with Meg that it had all the warmth of a lab, or a photo out of House Beatiful.

Norton:

Looking down with a smile as Rebecca touched his hand, Norton placed his own atop her's. "I've missed your touch..." He whispered as he looked back up. At the mention of Meggan, Norton became serious again. "She's at home, decorating for her party. She's got some friends and her new boyfriend over tonight, I guess he's got a little band or something, and she wants them to play at her party."

Rebecca:

She smiles up at Norton. "Our daughter is so beautiful. I am so anxious to see her and her boyfriend. It feels like I haven't seen her in so long. The party will be wonderful I know it." She goes back into her memories trying to recall what her daughter looks like. "When she we be going back to our house?"

Norton:

"In awhile, I was actually..." Norton drew a single, blushing pink rose from behind his back to present it to Rebecca. "That you and I..." He reached out with it, brushing the soft petals along her cheek. "Could maybe kiss?" He smiled at her, arching an eyebrow.

Rebecca:

"Aww Norton you are always so sweet to me." She lays her other hand upon his cheek and smiles up at him. "Of course you can kiss me! I'm your wife after all!" She truly did believe she was.

Norton:

Lidding his eyes he drew his lips to hers the strenghts of the emotions within his heart drew a sort of choked up whimper from his lungs as he met the perfectly synthesized flesh of Rebecca's lips.

When he drew away, he smiled at her, his eyes glossy with hidden tears. "You're my wife..." He wispered to himself. He bit his lower lip as the image of her layed out, dead, in the morgue five years ago shot through his mind. Closing his eyes, he lowered his head and forced the image from his mind, intent to never think of it again.

In his mind, he had not just created a piece of advanced technology, he had brought his wife back to life. "I, I think its time I give Meggan her present..." Norton said as a faltering smile formed on his lips. He picked up his cell phone and dialed home. As of that moment, he had no idea of what he would actually say to her. Just that he had to get her to come here, to the lab, a safe place to reunite the three of them.

The phone rang...

The phone shrilled as Meg was carefully outlineing her eyes in black.

"Hello?" Her face fell when instead of a friend asking for directions it was her dad. "What? No freaking way am I leaving MY party with MY friends on MY brithday to come to YOUR lab to look at YOUR new experiment!"

She listened for a moment, making faces at Beth.

"Gee Dad, that's swell, I'm glad it's working out for you. But NO. Ok? I love you, but I have guests comeing. And Mom always said do not ever be rude to your guests. Remember?"

She hung up and tried to shake off her annoyance. "Like, can't he even remember what it's like to be normal?" She asked Beth as she spiked her bangs with glitter gel.

Norton:

"Hello?"

Norton looked up and winked to Rebecca as he got an answer.

"Hello hon, this is your father, I'm sorry to cut in on your party like this, but could you spare just an hour or so and come to the lab? I've a new... Gadget I would really like a young person's perspective on..."

"What? No freaking way am I leaving MY party with MY friends on MY brithday to come to YOUR lab to look at YOUR new experiment!"

His expression sunk to something between a frown and a grimace then.

"Hon, you don't understand, this is really important to me, and I think it will be VERY important to you as well, its so big its going to change both our lives, and I think for the better. Please... Please just come, it won't even take 30 minutes out of your night, I promise."

"Gee Dad, that's swell, I'm glad it's working out for you. But NO. Ok? I love you, but I have guests comeing. And Mom always said do not ever be rude to your guests. Remember?"

"This IS about your mom..." Norton tried to get in edge wise as his daughter laid it all out for him and abrubtly hung up. "Meggan? Meggan! Damnable child..." He spat, closing his cell phone and gritting his teeth.

He shook his own annoyance off as best he could, looking up into Rebecca's eyes. "She's not coming..." He informed his wife with a frown.
