Rebels take over Gaddafi compound

Triumphant rebels have seized Moamar Gaddafi's compound in Tripoli this morning after hours of heavy fighting.

The defenders of the Bab al-Aziziya compound had fled, but the whereabouts of Gaddafi and his family is not known.

In dramatic scenes, the rebels have been destroying symbols of Gaddafi's rule and firing into the air in celebration.

They hoisted their flag in the fortress to mark the symbolic end to the Libyan strongman's 42-year rule.

Some rebels kicked the head of a statue of Gaddafi, while others posed beside a sculpture of a golden fist holding a fighter plane -
a symbol of a US attack on the compound in 1986.

TRIPOLI - Joyful Libyan rebels overran Muammar Gaddafi's Tripoli bastion on Tuesday, seizing weapons and loot and destroying symbols
of a 42-year dictatorship they declared was now over as they set about hunting down the fallen ruler and his sons.

"It's over! Gaddafi is finished!" yelled one fighter over a cacophony of celebratory gunfire across the Bab al-Aziziya compound, from where
Gaddafi orchestrated eccentric defiance of Western powers and disdain for his own people for four decades.

I can't believe that a fucking idiot like gaddafi was able to hold onto power for this long.

He definitely had a little help from the international community.

it's good to see him gone.
