Rebellion: The Fall of Toom (OOC)

This thread will depict the war between the Morg Empire and a group of rebels that for over a decade fight to retake their land from the invaders.

It will take place in a fantastic parallel planet Earth.

This is a closed project for the moment, with three participants. If by any chance you want to take part, please PM.

This post will be later edited and added with additional information.

Background

The beginning

The Morg Empire was built over the ashes of several smaller - yet powerful in its days of glory - kingdoms, after a long and gruesome war the Morgs themselves instilled through intrigue and deceit, re-sparking ancient grudges and feudal disputes.

Morg grew rich and powerful during the war by supplying a steady flow of cheap slaves to sustain the war effort from far away lands, with different clans forming alliances with different realms to sustain an illusion that even the Morg took one side of the conflict. Gold, silver and gems flowed in return of this aid and when the hard currency dwindled and eventually ended, monarchs granted lands and titles, bringing their future masters closer to them.

After decades of a ravaging war, where the corpses piled on the fields of battle as far as the eye could see, with all the noble houses exhausted of their money and, more importantly, their last good men all kings resorted to their long time Morg allies to help them in the final effort to end the war. It was when the Morg showed their true intentions and put an end to what they had started: the old kings where overthrown and publicly executed and with their heads, their banners fell to the ground.

With the royal houses dead, the Morg swept the land with the swiftness of an infectious disease, enslaving every last survivor of the war and taking over the few still standing cities on the land.

The present

Several years after the war, the Empire is officially recognized, with the neighbouring kingdoms trying their best not to fall on the bad side of the Morg, who are rightfully feared, although there are still pockets of resistance inside the Empire.

Those who still fight the Morg are mainly small groups formed by former farmers that had their lands taken from them by the Morg, along with their women and children. They take shelter in places where the Morg won´t go, like swamps, cave systems and the highest of mountains, places where little food and shelter from the elements can be found. With no outside support, although persistent, these groups are no more than a nuisance to the Morg. Nonetheless, every city has a garrison stationed and the border towns are more of fortress than city.

Although all of theses problems around and within it due to its location and, above anything else, its strong coin, the Empire is a flourishing gathering point for merchants from every part, with caravans arriving to the border towns carrying every sort of merchandise one can imagine, along with the never ending escort of travellers.

The City of Toom

Lord Morak is the present governor of Toom and it was under his command that the rebels around the city suffered their greatest losses. An experienced strategist and a veteran soldier, he was the first commander of the Toom garrison to guide his troops into battle, standing side by side with his warriors on the front line; this bolstered the moral of the troops and the victories they achieved broke the spirit of the rebels.

Being a border town, and with the rebels kept at bay by the constant Morg patrols roaming the roads, Toom quickly became an important commercial hub. The trade-off of this was the permanent martial law state over the city. Fear became the ever present companion of every soul walking the streets.

Public executions are held almost daily and for the pettiest of crimes. Slaves are little more than beasts of burden. Even foreigners can quickly become prey of an overzealous guard and end up in jail without a trial on a formal accusation. The very few free commoners avoid being outside when the night comes and avoid being noticed by the patrols even during the day.

Participant: Wolfsister
Avatar: Arish Blade

Race: Human

Age: 19 (but looks 16)
Height: 5'1"
Weight: 100 lbs
Hair: Dark red tinge (natural) short and straight. (just below ears)
Eyes: Opaline green
Skin: Fair

Occupation: Assassin (Guildless)
Starting location: City of Toom, Dank Town (slum part of the city)

Abilities:
Wood craft, martial art, sword craft, limited weapon smiting, stave craft, bow craft, throwing knives, thief craft, mimicry and some small spell craft, some herb craft

Physical description:
Slender and small, Arish is often underestimated. She is lithe and extremely agile with wiry muscles she hides under clothes - built up through years of body conditioning. She has slender fingers through working with knives since she could hold them. She is an extremely good shot.

Equipment:
She has numerous equipment - it usually depends on the job - but she usually carries a lock picking set, sewing kit, leather scrip with herbs, grappling hook, make-up set, spell book, tinder/flint kit and other useful tools.

Clothing:
She usually wears clothes that cover all. And a cloak that has a deep cowl, with darker colours suiting her best. She occasionally wears dresses, it depends on the job. She wears predominantly breeches with long sleeved shirts. She wears no jeweller except for a single golden bracelet on her left wrist. She does not wear revealing clothing willingly.

Weapons:
Numerous throwing knives as well as ordinary blades. She carries bow and quiver in the forest. Arish usually carries a walking staff that doubles as a quarterstaff. She also wears a short scimitar like blade that has a simple baldric which allows her to wear it at hip or on back. She also carries several fuse bombs at a time (usually smoke or flashbangs) as well as the small quantity of spells she carries with her.

History:
Arish belonged to the Guild of Assassins since birth. Her parents were sub par members, never reaching the higher echelon, but Arish worked hard and achieved a great many things. It was like she was compensating for her family. True, initially she didn’t have much choice in her career, but she grew to love it. She is a solitary type of person and likes the ‘cloak and dagger’ approach to assassination – though she will do pretty much anything to get the job done.

Relatively poor, despite her accomplishments, Arish was never one for the trappings of wealth. When the Guild decided it would make more profit working for the Morg – she decided to leave. Well, run away, is more the term. Soon after she was cast out, she learned that the Guild had abandoned all to the Morg. They were slaughtered. She now lives in the city – stealing for her food and generally just hiding. She doesn’t care overly much about the city, or who controls it.

Finding some orphans, she became their patron, of sorts. She keeps them fed, clothed and teaches them some of her trade – the more bloody aspects she keeps to herself – and subsequently safe. She can usually be found in their den – playing the mother.

Heyya Qyron.

I guess that means that my profile was correct.

So, i assume that the city Arish is from is Toom?

Yes, Wolfsister, your profile is perfect and that is why I´ve decided to make it the standard for the project. Its easy to read and it has all the necessary information to get to know the PC.

If you want to consider Toom has Arish´s home town, please do. If not, be free to create any other city, village or town for her.

Oh, and don´t mind the mess around these parts... Please. *whistles trying to divert attentions * I´m still working on the place. *pushes paint bucket behind a wall with foot*

LOL, don't worry about it. Its your first try.

Well then, you can add that Arish's location is Toom (we can add Dank Town to Toom's geography)

I have yet to describe the city physically, but Toom is an extremely large town, Wolfsister, so it´s easy to picture it as having multiple "pockets", each one with a very distinct nature. And being under such a strict regime it is even easier to picture that; Morg would push the very few free commoners to the edge of town and keep the much more organized and comfortable centre for themselves. And the citadel is normally in the centre of the city.

Hi, Wolfsister. I´ve been a little busy lately, and since Jedi has been off the air for the past few days I haven´t given much attention to the thread. But I didn´t dropped it, I assure you.

And what have you up to lately?

Sorry, been distracted by RL. I believe you need a name for the elf and why he's where ever he is, right? The second part is the easy part. The name, not so much, which is why I had chosen to go nameless in the first place.

A question or two: where's the IC? And weren't you going to provide more info in the other posts, Qyron?

Yeah, I've been distracted with RL as well. I've got a bit to do with IV and I'm thinking of setting up a prequel. With the three storylines I have left with IV - its a bit slow going. (most of it is my fault) but things have grown stagnant and I can't write as well as I used to.... *shrug* I'll get it back sooner or later.

I didn't believe you dropped it, just letting you know that I'm still around.

We all have been busy in the real world, apparently. (sorry for the worst than usual English today, but I´m lacking my spellchecker)

I have yet to open the IC, Jedi. I figured we would all get a little busy this month as I figured we are all college students here; I want to discuss the world and the settings of the story with you and Wolfsister and trim the edges if necessary.

Of, course, I still want a detailed profile on your avatar (the elf), including the why is he where he is on this story; if you´re having trouble getting him a name, give him a handle or a nickname. I plan to have dialogues between avatars in this thread and will get awkward to have the other character calling the elf by... well, elf.

I already have a few ideas on how to open the IC but I still haven´t put anything on "paper", so to speak.

If you need help with a name Jedi, give me a shout. I'm pretty good with that sort of stuff.

Well, I was thinking that since the elf has/had amensia (not sure if he gets over it or not), I was thinking he would go with a name the people of Aine would give him. And not being familiar with the Aine, I figured that you would be the best option for a naming the elf, Wolfsister.

LOL, Hero sounds too generic. So something the Aine would have given him to recognise the feats he did in getting the world back to him.

Then again, the Gods that were playing the Aine game could have seen you and granted you access to some of your memories. Like a particular set, or a set of visuals or something like that. Things to do with Aine you guys can just ask, cos I knew where it was going. So if you wanna know the outcome or something like that, just ask.

Which way do you want to go, Jedi?

Ah, hell...that's tough Wolfsister.

The elf wasn't exactly the type to be in the spotlight, so a name describing his feats according to the people wouldn't fit quite right. I'm thinking more of a name the people would give to an odd looking elf who is more of an engima to them than he is a hero. In fact, I even doubt the people would be aware enough of him to even give him a name. The people he dealt with like the Queen and Keresh would be more likely to give him a name.

As for the gods giving the elf access to his memories, that would require actually coming up with more history for him, or at least a name in his language.

With that in mind, I think I've come up with a decent analogy that compares the traditional elven language with that of the Mori Elves. If the traditional elven language were a beautiful marble sculpture, fresh off the artist's block, then the Mori language would be that same sculpture exposed to the elements for a very long time; it may have once been beautiful, but now it has been beaten and weathered beyond recoginition.

Well, good morning...

And where does that leaves your elf, jedi?

Sooo.... that didn't really answer my question.

The question is, do you want to do more work on him and create some more history (it can cover as little as a half an hour encounter with a loved one or something) I can come up with something appropriate in the Mori language.

As for the people naming him, I meant that the queen and Karesh would - essentially giving him legendary status with people they met. He didn't necessarily have to be around or meeting ordinary people.

Let's have the Aine name him.

I can come up with names galore for humans and Star Wars characters, but elves, not so much.

Perhaps you could lift a bit of the veil of the aftermath of the Ain war, wolfsister. That could help in terms of giving Jedi and myself ground to get the characters working together again. And personally I believe jedi could use some info to improve the background of the "elf".

Hmmm... I think the athalan and him would be gnawing at each other until they proved their worth.

Nayil may be itching to prove himself, but the elf not so much. The Mori aren't the type that feel the need to prove themselves to others, let alone themselves. They're also not the type that socializes with other races aside from what is necessary.

As for more background info for the elf, I figure I have too much as is.

Ummm... its all jumbled in my head. If you want answers to specific questions, go ahead. I didn't even get to introduce my major characters before it died, so *shrug* not sure how the information will be relevant in that sense as you won't know who I'm talking about.

Anyway, the Talarines were defeated, Aine reunited and Lisika became Queen. A wiser and more cautious queen with a better temprement. Erm... The Riada were given alliance as well as the Orcs and their respective kingdoms prosper through trade and training. The Talarines weren't wiped out - but their 'Goddess' did return to take them to someplace unknown (undisclosed).

As for the Elf. If you want the Ain to name him then the first logical name that comes to mind is simply, "The Hunter" or for short, "Hunter". You could also call him "Huntsman" - but I'm not sure if americans would pick up the reference there. (aussie spider).

Ummm... those are the logical choices - after all he was constantly in the background, a major fighter in all the minor ways and usually unseen but very deadly.

What do you think?

"Hunter" sounds more like a name than a title, like "The Hunter" or "Huntsman," which is a good thing. However, "Hunter" sounds too American/English for the region and theme of the story. How about we simply change the language? I've done it couple of times in the past, just not here on Lit. How does "Jagare" sound? Put the horizontal ":" over the first "a" and it's Swedish for "Hunter."
