dear lit chatters and other forum members,
:)
i hv a problem, and im not sure where to address it.

i hv been using the literotica chat for the last 3 years, with the id "meandmommy". earlier it used to be fine but now they have introduced these really strict filtering rules, where u cant type words like incest, rape, force etc.

what i dont understand is, why the cms (that is chat moderaters) keep banning me as soon as i log in. i used to have a description asking for incest in my profile which i had changed since, im well over-age (almost 22) and i hv never indulged in underage roleplay or other 'illegal' stuff. i dont want to change my id as im really fond of my old one. i hv changed ip addresses but the ban is still not lifted. i can log in after a long break but the problem will recur again.

i hv always admired the moderaters for the effort and time they put in to make the chat a spam-free and decent place. but whatever happened to free speech? what is the point of banning users for asking for incest while having a "family roleplay" room (which is THE most popular room after the 'Lounge' btw) at the same time. isnt it hypocritical? as i hv found out, incest fantacies are by far the most common in the whole chat, at any time.

some may call my next comment unfair but, most of the cms i hv chatted with have an extremely arrogant air of superiority. they have a tough job, yes, but they are really unhelpful at times. im sure they wdnt hv the time to listen to all these concerns over the chat. it wd help if they do it with lot more curtsey.

i hv talked to other chatters who have admitted to hv had similar problems with the cms.

i want to know what others think of the issue, especially if its right to have the filters in place as they have now.

Perhaps you should try this, and get your chat buddies to switch to it as well: http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=603492

Are you sure you were banned? People get locked out of, and can't get into, chat all the time. Chat is unreliable at best; we get complaints about it not working frequently. We've gotten a lot more in the past year. Have you tried changing your username to see if you're still "banned" as soon as you log in?

You'd have to take the censorship issue up with Laurel or Manu, the site owners. I don't know what their policy on censoring chat is. If you do contact them (Laurel usually responds to private messages fairly quickly), I'd suggest being very polite, solution-oriented (instead of just complaining), not using chat abbreviations and spellchecking your message before you send it. Like it or not, people have a tendency to make judgments on how you write in a medium like this, and you have a better chance of being taken seriously if you take the time to write words out, spellcheck and proofread before sending your message.

Keep in mind that they may have started censoring words because there was an actual problem with them. Someone may have been spamming with some of those words, or they may have gotten complaints about realistic rape or incest talk that crossed the line. It could be a legal issue, too, as law enforcement has been known to patrol chat sites, and some talk may look questionable to them. There are lots of potential reasons, and while free speech is held in high regard on this site, it'd be foolish for the administrators to allow stuff that could hurt the site in the long run.

hey erica,

that was really helpful, i'll try to proof read my messages and avoid abbrevs(lol) in the future...

two questions? are you related to the site machinary?

where wd i get the site owners addresses?

thx

hmmm... the future of your proof reading looks uncertain.

Give the OP a break. Many litsters don't have English as a first language and manage to post more eloquently than many native 'English' speakers.

I don't think your comment was constructive.

I have similar issues as a BDSM lifestyler because the chat site won't allow words like force, rape, nonconsent and many others that people like myself would otherwise use. It's also irksome to have SCHWARTZED stuck in the middle of sentences and ruins any attempt at narrative flow unless both chatters know which words to avoid.

At the same time, there is always a room up called nasty, taboo, no limits or something similar where all this kind of darker, edgier BDSM fantasy gets enacted. It does seem like something of a double standard. It makes the place feel a bit juvenile, as having a word replaced by the name of an herb in block capitals seems like a finger wagging, condescending parent ticking you off. It sometimes makes me feel like I'm being mocked. I know the words have to be replaced with something but it does detract from the experience. The day I have to write peepee instead of piss, I'm officially giving up.

I understand that Laurel and Manu have existential issues going on and that creating an environment that allows free speech without people roleplaying about abusing 5 year olds with impunity is tricky. I frequently get requests to RP below a legal age and although I always say no, there must be people who agree or there wouldn't be so many perverts trawling the site on the off chance that someone will respond.

It really is a great chatroom on the whole, which is why I persevere with it. It would be great if it was a little more robust and didn't reach it's user limit quite so often but it's a testament to the popularity of the place, despite its policies and rules.

Discretion may be the better part of valour here. You know you can write about family stuff in the family room and that there are plenty of like minded people awaiting you there. Changing your screen name shouldn't really be this big of a deal, even if it is slightly disappointing.

I hate to be cynical, but I think you're wasting your time if you actually think that any of the CMs or the site owners are going to care about your complaints and concerns. The chat site has been unreliable for quite awhile - due to anything from a hacker to "technical difficulties'.

It's a private site, so the owners are certainly free to make any rules that they want - whether those rules seem hypocritical or not. I seriously doubt that this type of censorship/rules/whatever is going to change because you complain; I doubt you would even get a response or explanation.

As for why you are banned, I have no idea. Several months ago, I was banned for no reason at all and was told by a former CM that there are glitches in Digichat that randomly ban people sometimes. Maybe that's what happened to you?

The chat site has SO many problems that the site owners and CMs do not seem able to control - my guess is that's why they exercise as much control as possible over things like blocking certain words and in general, exuding an air of superiority. It's the only control over the site that they have.

I used to really enjoy chatting in Lit but in the last year or so it has gone WAY downhill. Good luck to you - I hope you get some answers but I wouldn't count on it.

hmm as i had thought, i was sure... more people must have had problems with the chat. i agree that overall the atmosphere is quite enjoyable and the majority of the chatters dont behave obtrusively to the flow of chat. if the cms just kept themselves to preventing spam and looking after the numerous technical problems, the chat would be a great place indeed.

as for popcorn's crack about my proodreading, check the dictionary of expressions, thats all i can say...

i was able to log into chat again last day, so im postponing my letter to laurel/manu for now. plus is seems pointless given the utterly silly problem they are having now where you get booted as soon as you send a pm. also i was thinking, if i do send a letter in the future, wouldnt it be more fruitful if it is co-signed by other chatters who have experienced similar problems?

i really hope the chat gets better in the future... its been my regular hangout place for years. kinda like 'central perk' from FRIENDS.
