:p I, first want to say...I really am enjoying my membership. I truly love the stories. Yet, I have a problem. I have submitted stories and they were returned with advise to redo due to 1- spelling errors, so some other reason..2- missed placed ''s or ,'s, these kinds of things. Yet, when I proofed read them over and over, I still found nothing wrong with them. So, I stopped trying to submit.
Now, here of late, I see many stories with misspelled words and all types of errors. I am sitting here wondering...What were wrong with mine...I just can't figure it all out.
I will continue to come into site and enjoy, but when I attempt to write another story is unknown.
If any one can offer a suggestion as to why this happened, I may feel a bit better about the whole thing. Till then, I guess I will have to continue to wonder and wonder and wonder.
Thank you for allowing me to express this concern that I have and I do wish each and every writer much more success then I have had.

freshrope, I'd suggest reading through the posts on the "Author's Hangout" board and reading through the FAQ on the "Editor's Forum" board.

Otherwise, I don't know nuffin' cuz I dunt rite to gud meself. ;)

Thank you Nora. I will take that suggestion, even through I have been there many times to see if I may found an answer there.

First, you are right that some of the stories here are not as well written as they could be. I think you'll find that they tend to be rated lower than the grammatically correct ones.

Second, please accept this as a positive criticism, but your writing does need work. You might consider a course to enhance your grasp of the rules of syntax, grammar and spelling. Compare this, which I have edited, to your original post:

Some of my corrections may change the meaning of your text. I was unclear about your intent in a few cases. Also, I am no expert. I'm sure my own syntax could be improved.

I have given a few minutes of thought to your reply phrodeau. I may had been too quick to agree totally. I truly don't believe my syntax is that far off of being acceptable. A question I do have is this, can one have a unique writing style? I may need some work, but it isn't like I don't know how to speak nor write.

In deeper thougth here, I guess I did open myself to the "positive" critcism and only hope to be good enough to have a story posted. I have many "tales" which are true, enjoyable, and worthly of posting.

I guess, I just have to take that professional writing course and the investment would manifest itself with my first story. I just hope to have a strong manful attitude to withstand all the critics.

Thank you once again. So, in parting, I only agree to a degree, but not totally.

I couldn't ask for more. As I said, I'm not an expert.

Style is something that can transcend syntax, grammar and spelling. Many authors write outside the rules and achieve a definite style. James Joyce and Anthony Burgess come to mind. But I think they know precisely which rules they're breaking when they do so.

Good luck to you.
