Survivor sems to have begun the whole slew of them but why? Most are niether reality or good television.

A list:

Survivor I
Survivor II
BootCamp
Murder In Small town X
Chains of Love
Love Boat
Love Island
Fear Factor
etc.

The only one that Is anywhere near interesting to me is Fear Factior where the actually do stuff and its over with in one episode. The only thing is the eating gross stuff challenges. Nothing scary or fearful just plain disgusting is all replace it with another physical challenge.

But aside from all that what is with the sudden insurgence of Reality Television? Are the sitcom eriters out of work, are they striking? Is there no new talent in the Actor/actress pool? Every chanel seems to have a reality series of its own, Why?

MTV started it 10 years ago with The Real World. Major networks turned the idea into a contest and it took off. People like it, so they keep doing it over and over. It'll get old, just like 90210.

MTV had a pretty good show on a few months back, I don't know if they plan on putting it back on the air again but I hope they do. It was called Fear.

anyone see big brother that was uk reality show ... you could watch it 24 hours a day (if you were that sad) and it was "real" because you would see them doing boring stuff like reading books etc :)

surprising it was actually quite good ... you watch it kind of waiting for something to happen ... when i couldnt sleep it was great to watch late at night when they were all getting drunk and having silly conversations

big brother was also the first one :)

Yes I seen Big Brother and Big Brother two, though they might have been the americanized versions.

I watched one episode to each an hour each they just squueeze a week of good stuff into 1 hour.

A Good One, Actually

There was a good one on PBS, believe it or not, a few months ago. A family went to live in a house in London that was set up with absolutely no technology that wasn't commonly available in 1900.

Yes I saw that well bits and pieces. I didn't really think it a reality show as in the contest versions as much as a reality education show showing how life was realistically. Did you see when they had to cheat and buy shampoo cause the home made stuff was trashing thier hair. I thought it so funny.

Reality Shows, YUCK!!!!!

It all stinks in my opinion. What ever happened to the "easy" way to make money, like the lottery. Or even going on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" Now people have to be on an island, were all they have to eat is bugs and whatever seafood they can find. I'm not a gambling man, but I'd rather take my chancing with winning a million the "easy" way.

That was the only "Reality Show" that I ever actually sat down and watched. Don't know if it was REAL or not, but some of the things made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

reality tv would be improved by better script writers and actors we can recognise

[am i missing the point here?]

Vanna

Now your talking. I don't actually watch the show often, because I think Pat Sajak is a KNITWIT, but Vanna is HOT!!!!!!!

I loved that show. I don't think the storylines were real, but I think that the situations the people were in plus the mindset the people were in expecting to be frightened were enough to scare the contestants. I think the FEAR was real.

I know what you mean Todd, What happened to the days when you could watch gameshows from 8am until the soaps came on (of course I changed the channel then)

But that's why it's "REality" TV
