“The electorate itself is divided, but doesn’t necessarily view this issue as an either/or choice. Polling shows that a large majority of Americans support the idea of examining the causes of both the 2020 summer riots in America’s cities and the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

‘It is clear, then, that many Americans see two sides to this story. In keeping with its mission to fill gaps in press coverage, RealClearInvestigations is launching a running compendium of data, with hyperlinked sourcing, comparing the damage done on Jan. 6, and the subsequent treatment of those accused of perpetrating it, with two other recent events: the summer 2020 riots and – in some ways a closer analogy – the all-but-forgotten riot in Washington on Inauguration Day 2017, as protesters challenged Donald Trump’s election and legitimacy much as Jan. 6 rioters challenged Joe Biden's.

“RealClearInvestigations has found that:

“The summer 2020 riots resulted in some 15 times more injured police officers, 30 times as many arrests, and estimated damages in dollar terms up to 1,300 times more costly than those of the Capitol riot. George Floyd rioters were found to have used more sophisticated and dangerous tactics than did the Capitol rioters, and in some cases weapons of greater lethality.
Authorities have pursued the largely Trump-supporting Capitol rioters with substantially more vigor than suspected wrongdoers in the earlier two cases. Many accused Capitol rioters, unlike accused participants in the other riots, have been held in pretrial detention for months – with one defendant serving more time than the maximum sentence for the charge to which he pleaded guilty. Some allegedly endured solitary confinement and other mistreatment.
With authorities applying lenient prosecutorial standards in many major cities torn by the summer riots, the vast majority of charges last year were dismissed, as were charges in the Inauguration 2017 unrest. Charges have to date been dropped in only a single Capitol riot case.

What was missing was state charges, which were the dominant method of indictment for summer riots. It would show a better comparison as by just showing federal charges, the numbers seem skewed

Additionally, Federal charges and state charges are handled very differently. Feds aren't staffed as much, resulting in slower response to high caseload. State and Federal prosecutors also have different standards on how they prosecuted..so more state charges are dismissed.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be looked at....I just think they truly missed a lot of context that add to interpretation...the way they did this allows for easy oversimplification and stupid sound bytes.

Aka lazy reporting

Neither was justified, but there’s a big difference between responding to the cruel slaughter of unarmed people by law enforcement officers, and attempting to cancel out the Constitution.

Meanwhile back at the ranch the Capitol Police, the most secretive in the nation, are refusing to release hundreds of hours of video tapes that captured the event and the actions of it's participants.

What galls me, is Soros funded State Prosecutors like Kim Fox in Chicago, (St.Louis, Philly, Portland etc.) refusing to prosecute. I defense of Lori Lightfoot’s PD, officers are no longer arresting people that should be arrested because of charges getting dismissed by Fox’s office. No doubt frustrating! Criminals need to be prosecuted and if found guilty, sentenced appropriately. But that isn’t happening and hence crime spirals out of control. ChiTown is a good example of bad government.

Soros, drink!

Yah, you're digging at the liberal angle in response to my comment and my comment was about federal versus state differences from a general perspective. They dismiss more cases than the Feds on the regular because their caseload is much higher.

As an aside and adding to my previous comment, the other main difference being missed is the amount of evidence collected for each case. Cameras on Jan 6 were everywhere. During the summer riots, they weren't. This makes the burden of proof much harder to come to...which likely also led to more dismissals

And this is an apples to oranges comparison that have nothing to do with each other, which these folks are trying conflate.... Republicans will be Republicans.

We have to ask ourselves a question, where is it written that a politician can prevent a sworn police officer from arresting people committing felonies and breaking the laws in his presence? Where is that power in the oaths of office for the Mayor? It should be an obstruction of justice to prevent an police officer from carrying out his sworn duty.

I don't necessarily agree with you on this. But I do believe in order to properly compare the two, you must acknowledge the differences up front as completely as you can. Just understanding state versus federal case handling completely changes how you perceive the data. And leaving out the numbers for state cases, also does.

And who is prosecuting in the Federal cases? A regional difference could explain some aspects.

Like I said...seems lazy to me..which is easy pickins for quick charged reaction
