Real stories?

I have written one autobiographical story, but it's not up on Lit due to the underage rule.

My published pieces are all fictional, although I usually have a character in there who embodies my views, values, vices or simply my mood at the time of writing, and that's not always the protagonist.

There are a huge number of users on this site. I don't think the term "goodly numbers" comes anywhere close to preponderance. Nor do I think that those posting to the boards come anywhere close to representing the general views of the total users of the Web site. But that's just what I think, just like everyone else who just thinks about it.

If you look at the user statistics from independent sites, Literotica is massive, but the active participants are not.

If you look at the numbers signed in to Literotica at any one time, and compare that with the numbers on all of the boards, including the General Board - less than 10% are on the boards.

But - the number of people looking at Literotica who are signed in is less than 10% of the total. Most do not sign in.

So 1% or even fewer of those currently on line are on the total of all the boards.

We aren't representative of Lit's users. And if we are actually authors? We are a tiny percentage of the users. 0.1%? Fewer? If you want recent authors, say those who have posted a story in the last 12 months, the percentage goes even lower - to possibly less than 0.01%.

Just checked. This is a very quiet time. 900 on line. 20 on the AH.

->I got feedback from people assuming it had been real. I quickly had to reinforce the whole fictional element of my writing.

->Does that happen to you?
->Or are your stories really real?

Real in that I write about what interests me (as we all do.) This might lead some people to believe I'm a pervert, and they might be right. ("Pervert" is subjective. One person's pervert could be the next person's normal.)

I do prefer realism in writing - imperfect people, awkward sex, people not cumming simultaneously, jealousy, ruined lives - because that's how RL is. I sometimes add an author's note "this story is a fictionalized account of a real-life event" even though it isn't. As a reader, I'd rather believe the story is true than have to pretend it is when it's obviously just another fantasized stroker.

I also write satire, where everything is over the top. In that case I'm making fun of the idealized writing that's so common at LIT, or I'm tackling my favorite subject: hypocritical Christians. I suppose with my more serious writing, the "real me" might be revealed, but I'm okay with that. In fact, that's why I changed my screen name recently - to make it easier for the reader to guess where I'm really coming from.

I like the authors note, idea.

Well, those are aspects to some real lives. Since a great many stories here are short stories, real life also encompasses hot sex and loving relationships. Sure, people have problems, but they also have joy. Everyone should write what they want, but it really is okay that not everyone thinks life sucks.

I don't think life sucks, I just find the challenges of life more interesting to read about than the "loving moments". My GF is the exact opposite. Her thing is romance novels. If she ever read one of my stories, she'd be aghast! (Now there' a word you don't see very often. :D )

Back when I had my old profile on Literotica. I wrote a story with an awesome intro, glowing imagery.
It was a perverse teen fuck tale, I think I wrote it in a drunken haze, weeks after when I had sobered up, it had to come down. However it was better received than anything I have up now. I got constant feedback.

I don't use RL for major storylines (though some experiences inevitably creep in) but I throw them in as side anecdotes sometimes, with details changed.

For instance, I had a bit about a small-town doctor and dentist who used to get together and finish off the nitrous oxide when it was getting near the use-by date. That's based on a family member, though I changed the ending.

Fair enough. I commented because you spoke of realism, but then only mentioned "the dark side" of things. Preference is a different story.

I totally agree. I take reality add hyperbole, and sprinkles.

In the "category" thread, last week people said "mature" is third behind "incest" & "loving wives." I told them "Mature" couldn't be number 3.

Guess again. It are.

But you have to remember the age of the average reader here.

I believe its #3 but that aint high praise. My highest scores are in Mature, and the reads are nuthin to brag about.

That's because you've been spoiled. You've been living large in "Loving Wives" with a bit of incest I see.
