This site is great for getting contemporary details of criminals:

The Old Bailey

I searched for my real family name.

No criminals. One was a witness to a burglary.

The other was a juryman in a jury that acquitted some curriers for conspiracy to associate to force an increase in their pay.

However there is a wealth of information. Any of your family on this site?

I also searched for my real family name. There were no hits. I suspect that the lack of hit is more due to cleverness, rather than goodness.

JMHO.

It also depends on the family being in or close to London - as my family have been from 1326 to date.

I did not search for the Scot of my dads mother or Hungarian/German names on my mothers side, but did for the English name I was born with, and they were mainly (on the first of a dozen pages only) jurors lol, but for a burgler and a perjeror. I am sure there is some name relation, somewhere. People on both sides of mom and dad have done geneological histories, and it's truly fascinating, but what a process and what really ODD ancestors! :D
