There’s a new love in my life whose knowledge of Erotica is limited to my own stories and 2 or 3 novels. Shame on him, I know! ;) I gave him a short novel from one of my favourite erotic author to read this week and, since met with success, today I had him read erotic stories from another author, a friend, with whom I used to write and who sometimes cast me as a character. Now I’ve got him wanting more!!! That’s great news for me; since he’s well read and has a good critical eye (I plan to use him as a sounding board once his knowledge of Erotica is broadened  )! He’s asked that I put together a sampling of good stories from different categories, styles and authors. That’s the tricky part!

Putting that list together is proving to be quite a challenge! I’ve been reading here on Lit for two or three years (maybe more, I don’t know exactly) so obviously I already have favourites but I know there are some jewels out there that I missed (ok, I admit I’m getting something out of this too) and some authors are so prolific that I’m not sure which stories to put in  . That’s where I need your help!

Is there a story(ies) that you would like to recommend? It could be one of your own (you know that one you’re secretly proud of, don’t be shy), or someone else’s. I need your help with this so please share, I’ll go down on my knees if I have to! Well, I might do it even if I don't have to. :D

P.S. In case there is a story you’re really proud of but are to shy to say so here, I’ve emptied my PM box so feel free to use it (but since they’ll be others reading this it might be to your advantage to post it)!

You've already read one of mine (thank you!), but I rather like my newest, I Alone, even though its in the non-erotic category.

Or maybe, if you don't mind lesbian erotica, Atlantis Revisted, Ch. 2.

Simulacre,
You might try the 'Top Lists' both for 'score' and 'Most Reads' for a pretty generic cross section.
The top stories for the contests
of the year might help as well as there is some variation there.
I realize that is not specific but that should give you a pretty good cross section overall.
The other thing would be to look in the sig's of your 'favorite' or 'most respected' people here. Most have a link in their sig to their stories.
Hugo

One of my all time faves here on lit is SweetSubSarahh's His Toy Story. (and the sequel). :)

edited to include the link

And that one of course has already made my list! I will however read both your suggestions this week-end, the non-erotic for myself and as for the lesbian erotica, as I said, I am looking for a variety so that's perfect! I’ve read and enjoyed some of Colleen Thomas’ stories but didn’t read the one you mentioned, I don’t mind long!

hugo_sam thank you for your suggestions! The top lists however I personally find do not necessarily reflect quality. The contest entries are a good suggestion since I've already discovered a few treasure that way, the sig lines have also been a magnet to me after interesting posts (yes, yes I lurk, I’m guilty!).

sophia jane thank you for the suggestion, I’ve never read any of SweetSubSarahh's stories so it’ll be a new discovery for me as well!

I’m off to read but keep the suggestions coming, I’m hopeful I’ll be reading a lot this week-end!

I quite like CarsonShepherd's "What Chocolate Mousse Can Do ." It's got something for everyone, gay and straight, and it has a wonderful sort of energy and delighted enthusiasm in it. "Happy sex" of the most engaging sort, and very ... stimulating. ;) Good characters as well - enough story that you get to know them and like them as well as being excited by their sex scene.

Carson's "Whole Heart " I also think very good, although it has a softer, more tender feel to it - quite moving. It's a gay interest story set in the 1940's.

Sabledrake's "Pasiphae" is a great choice for both historical and non-human; it's the tale of the queen seduced by the god Zeus in the form of a bull, but that's a terribly reductive way for me to present it. It is, amongst other things, damned funny, and includes such gems as the legendary inventor Daedalus producing a sex toy worthy of his reputation. It's well written and well worth reading.

In historical romances, I have a weak spot for Ms_Girl23's "To Tempt the Devil"; if I thought that anything in my power could coax another chapter from her, I would do it, but the posted first chapter stands pretty well alone. Good sense of humor, lovely wide cast of characters one really comes to enjoy and care for, and a strong sense of the period and location that never drags the story down.

In erotic horror, I highly recommend Rgraham's "Abyss," which presents a narrator so wonderfully engaging that I found it impossible to put the work down, and impossible to wish to. Ah, that's a fine piece of work. Don't miss it.

Dr. Mabeuse's "Leaves" is also listed under erotic horror, but might as easily be called poetry. It's filled with ripe images, beautiful language, and a long, lingering sorrow that is powerful in its evocation of regret and remorse. Sophisticated work that could (and one hopes will) find publication nearly anywhere the author chooses.

In the letters and transcripts section - one often overlooked - I quite love "Memoirs of a Lame Girl." It's a warm, sweet, tender story with a pleasant voice to it and good use of the letter format.

In the transsexual/crossdresser category, I fear that I must withhold my recommendation; Ms. Thomas has yet to introduce her recent novel to the world, and it by far exceeds anything else I have read in the genre. Do pester her for it. *grin*

SubJoe so eclipses all other erotic humor that I find it hard not to think of the category as "SubJoe." His "The Case of the Steaming Turk" is actually posted under celebrities, I think, but only because it's a howling good pastiche of Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Read more SubJoe.

(Oooh - but Sack's "The Worm" is the most wonderfully surreal combination of humor, horror, and pure ghastly silliness - it's impossible to convey how delightfully those elements combine.)

Please don't throw orange peels and eggshells at the horse; those are only the stories that leapt most immediately to mind through recent reading or association. I've read more good stories here than I could well list if I spent the rest of the night at it. Personally, when I am looking for good stories, I like to look at the "favorites" lists of authors whose works I have enjoyed.

I very much second Carson's What chocolate mousse can do- great story! Also SubJoe is fantastic- I don't think you can go wrong with any of his work.

Oohhhhhhhh! I'm so loving putting this list together! Thank you guys! (And I hope others benefit from your suggestions as well!)

I've already found one talent I was totally ignorant of and you've helped me narrow the choices on some authors whose stories I couldn't decide between (Dr M and SubJoe). :rose:

Going back to reading...

See, now I'm wondering who you were ignorant of.

Another Author: desertmac. He has one story posted here, Bobby's Tale and an even better one over on Superdrewby called Tutoring Jerry.

Tsk tsk tsk! :D Now, answering that wouldn't help you much since you don't know whose's talent I was already aware of! :p

If you're interested though I don't mind sharing the sampling list once I've put it together.

LOL I see I'm not the only one who thinks I might have overlooked good authors! You'll have to give me a few days to read and put it together but I won't forget. Until then, I'm hoping for a lot more reading...

Another humore reccomendation; lilredjammies her Sock Love stories are hysterical and weirdly sexy :D

and, let's see how I can phrase this... For a singular aspect of lesbian S&M, created by dykes for dykes- you might enjoy my story Jessamine :)

One I wrote for the 'Talisman' chain back in 2002, Lucy McFey, is one I'd like to bring to a newer audience. It's my only attempt at a historical piece (apart from another chain piece for 'Magic in America', Long Walker). I'm quite pleased with both, although I know they can be improved.

Apart from those, take pot luck! There's a link to my member page in my sig. Beware of my Geordie dialect piece, Aye, pet, aal the way, as it's not an easy read!

Under my Alt-ID of Frederick Carol, God bless you, Marianne duquesne, Second Time Around, Take me by surprise and The Gift are all stories I'm not ashamed of.

Alex

Yui's Sex and Candy would always be the first story that I'd recommend when these questions are asked. It's incest, but even if you don't enjoy the category, I'll bet you'd still find it outrageously hot.

Also, I wouldn't hate a read on one of my stories: My Turn - A sweet romantic tale of spanking, riding crops, handcuffs and a couple discovering just how far their boundaries go.

The Earl

A few that jump to mind for their HOTness and/or general enjoyability:

Yui's Sex & Candy

Colly's Take Two

SSS's His Toy Story (already mentioned)

Bel's San Diego Sunset ;) and Wingman

Barnaby's Purple Daze

Liar's She Danced

Neonlyte's The Blow Job

ABS' Dr. Bob

... of what's left on Lit of mine, I'd pick It's Just Sex! for a quick, fun read.

Anything by Zoot or Shang is a worthwhile use of your time.

There are tons more & I could be here all day just pointing out AH stories. The Rainy Day Story Challenge from last fall produced some really hot stuff (all of which is captured in Coming Together v3).

Some of my favourites...

Tee Time by Colleen Thomas

Joyride by Lucky-e-leven

The End of the Ice Age by Icingsugar

Plastic Love by Lauren Hynde

Will by BlackShanglan

Fairy Story by gauchecritic

Granted, I don't read much, and almost only by authors here on the board. But these are pure quality in various genres, from no-breaks humor to sappy-ish rtomance and all kinds of things in-between.

Favorite authors of mine:

Lucky-e-leven, Abstruse, Impressive (although she took my favorite down :( ) and of course anything by Colly (but my favorite is Take Two).

And if you're looking for good stories, avoid mine. :D But some I submitted as China aren't to bad.

Everyone has different tastes. I recommend, when you find a story you like, check out their favorites and read them.
