I know this has nothing to do with Lit, writing, reading smutty stories, etc..
...but I need assistance, lol.

Work has been slow, so I've been catching up on my reading, lol. (pretty sad I don't have time to read at home, but do at work  )

Anyways, I just read 'Cell' by Stephen King.
Let me say that I don't usually read him. I don't like to- he makes me dizzy.
But I gave that one a shot, and to my surprise and delight, I was actually into it. It was witty and sarcastic and I laughed several times. :) I liked it. :)
Then I got to the end.
I sat there, with my mouth hanging open, and I seriously considered poking myself in the eye with a dull pencil.
Has anyone else read this book? If so, feel free to join in in the aggravation, lol.
Then you can PM me and explain, lmfao. :)

Or any other books you've read that make you want to bang your head on the wall for hours and hours until you forget you read it. :D

K, that's all. :)

P.S. I just read on a review board that lots of people have been pissed about the ending, lol.

Can't help you at all, I'm afraid.
Never read any Stephen King, never had any desire to.

I'm sure there's some bods on here, though who have read it.

Just keep plugging away, I'm sure someone will pick up on your request.

I've read almost everything Steven King has published since Christine. All of them are engaging reads. I was a little disappointed in the Dark Tower since it took 20 years to finally get the last book of the series.

Cell was good. I liked it. The ending was rather unexpected but it was King's ending. If one doesn't like the ending of a book, they can write their own novel.

If you want to read King, do it. But I will warn you. Deloris Claybourn was dreary and boring compared to the others.

I liked Delores Claiborne. Not King's usual thing, but I liked it anyway. Rose Madder's interesting too.
Haven't got to Cell yet.

I like Koontz but not King. Koontz stuff is, like most horror, slighty unbelievable, but he puts lots of funny stuff in and keeps you turning the page to see what happens next.

I just read King's "Tommyknockers" and it was crap. Great characters, even a cute lil puppy dog. Its also a big, long book. The heroine whom you have grown to love reading all this crap at the end turns into a sadistic killer who tries to murder her best friend who stuck by her through thick and thin.

The cute lil doggie, he disappears fairly early but shows up near the end where he has been tortured terribly by the loving master and heroine turned sadistic killer. Then he just croaks like an afterthought.

I sat there, with my mouth hanging open, and I seriously considered poking King in the eye with a dull pencil.

Lisa,
The Tommyknockers is one of King's fairly early books and you are right. I was pretty unbelievable. It misses all the good things he did in Christine then did again in his last few books. Salem's Lot is great. It is...umm... fucking scary. Dead Zone, Misery, Insomnia, Pet Semitary, Running Man, The Shining and The Stand are all good novels.

Wish I could write like that :(

He is, without question, my favorite author. I started reading him when I was 10... I own and have read everything he's ever written. Tommyknockers was my least favorite. I swear he was high when he wrote that one. :x

The Cell... ha. I think I learned writing ambiguous cliffhangers from King.

I was never a Dark Tower fan until the end... when the story really got moving... and I love how he put it into so much of his other work.

I ever forgive him the bad ones... Rose Madder, Tommyknockers...

Don't mention "Bag of Bones" to Earl... :x

I'm just started Lisey's Story...

I've read a few and they were good, and I never said he was a bad writer, actually, I thought the book was excellent. The end made me pissed I had read it and for me, ruined it.

I want the peoples you have grown to love in a book to live or (in a horror story) die as you have grown to love them. I grew to love this character, her love for her dog, her faults and strengths, and her love for her friend who never lets her down.

Until he has to kill the wacko bitch in self defense, and finds the poor doggie she has been torturing, who dies (so what, on with the story) and I had invested all this time.

The end, for me, ruined a great story.

people feel so betrayed when a story takes a turn like that... I don't get it. I understand...it's where the story needed to go!

One of King's quotes is something like "I'll drop an elevator on an old lady if I have to."

*shrug*

I didn't feel betrayed, the old lady turned into an elevator which dropped onto a baby and a bunch of kitty cats, but at the end of the story.

The heroine he portrayed throughout the book ceased to exist.

It was a fraud to me.

But again, to me, in my opinion, my reading preference, my interpretation.

My guy suggested I read Cell and I gave it a shot, even though he told me I would hate the ending. I did though I was really into it until then. It was like Mr. King got tired of writing it and just said, yep, this looks like a good place to end it...

Thanks for the replies guys. :)

A hundred years ago I tried to read Misery.. I couldn't do it. I started it over 4 times and just couldn't do it.
A few years ago I started Christine, got halfway through it, and haven't picked it up since.
Cell was given to me, so I thought, 'what the hell'...
I loved it.. until the end. Maybe it's because I don't read him, I don't know how he works. I have no idea. But I'm angry at the ending! lol.
What do those dates mean? I don't get it, lol.
Maybe I'm just extra dense.
And is his son okay? Or does he fuck him up? *shrugs*

I like John Saul. I own almost all of his books... Dean Koontz I've never really gotten into.. I own a few of his books, I just don't recall if I've read them.

Oh well. I guess it isn't worth losing sleep over. :p

If it makes me feel any better, I can't get through 'Gone With The Wind' either, lmfao.

Yeah. Like the Dark Tower, after struggling through 6000 pages and the last line is, "The Dark Man moved across the desert and the Gun Slinger followed."

Damnit!!!
