Ever read a book, but not watch the movie based on the book?
I wish I had with RA Heinlein's Starship Troopers. Paul Verhoeven fucked the whole thing up. The book was so, so, so much better.
I don't think the two are really comparable. They are both excellent, with the movie taking a whole different tack with the military ads and Nazi thing.
That's my point...the only reason they kept the title was for the draw of the now dead author. I realize that the point of the movies was to make money, not follow the book. I was just disappointed by it. It should have had a different title. The sequels were even worse.
None of them were or would be part of the Starship Trooper universe as described by RAH.
I read The Iliad but I haven't bothered to watch any of those films which are based on it.
PS - it was brilliant! full of gore and fighting and more gore.
Starship Troopers is one of the few where I have done that, and sadly, Divergent. I'll have to read the books.
Startship Troopers supposedly is very different from the books, more funny. I don't know how much I would love the book, but I did enjoy reading Stranger in a Strange Land, so maybe I would.
I liked the first one, the rest sucked. Now I really want to read the book.
I can name one that I loved the book and wish I'd never seen the movie, Battefield Earth.
Now I didn't read Battlefield Earth, but saw the movie. I disliked the movie. I disliked it very much.
Starship Troopers is a short story compared to Stranger...I think you will enjoy it as long as you don't compare it to the movie as the two were nothing a like.
Two difference you will notice...
1. There are now women serving in the M.I.
2. There are no male pilots.
Queen of the Damned - several of my friends were in this, but still wasn't tempted.
Lots of Agatha Christie/Arthur Conan Doyle/Dorothy L. Sayers.
Same here. I read Rice's books-although by Tale of the Body Thief I wondered why and Memnoch the devil...where's the vomit emoji?
I saw Interview with a vampire which was enough to ensure I didn't see Queen of the Damned.
