My cousin is die-hard when it comes to promoting Amber Alerts, and I respect her immensely for that. Recently, she reposted an alert of a sixteen year old who had been missing for two days. Some doofus apparently just saw the pic, and without the benefit of reading the post commented, "Wow, she's hot." The father of the missing girl commented back, "This is my daughter, you moron. She's been missing for two days." The asshat replied. "Oh, my bad." The girl returned home safe and with no injuries.

Just wondering if anyone else has come across such absurdity on social media.

I see all sorts of crap like that on social media. Thankfully not from my friends.

I actually learned at work that you should never repost those unless you can trace it back to the cops.

Very often abusive family members (husbands, parents, etc) will post those on social media trying to find their victim and are actively working against the survivor and the law, using your desire to help to break through that restraining order.

I mean if you know the person or the source and know that it's legit, absolutely do that. But also just know, if it's a stranger, that this is a tactic that abusers use to find people and drag them back to abuse once they've escaped.

Someone is always someone's daughter, and whether she's missing, passed way, or has been catapulted into space, if she's hot, she's hot.

It's insensitive, given the situation, but now that she's returned, is it okay? What's the etiquette on that?

Bottom lone: before social media, you might have ran into an asshole every once in a while, now you run into them all the time.
