Ray Harryhausen finally goes to the big model shop in the sky.

While it is always sad to see one of the greats pass away, lets be honest here, some of his work should be classed as cinematic great moments, it could even be argued that his works lead to the great Wallace and Grommet, but with the passing of Thatcher there was little market place for the skills of someone able to make monster appear real yet harmless.

CGI is all well and good, but stop-motion is the Real Thing (as it were)!

RIP Ray.

Tonight I'll watch the original Clash of Titans in his memory. Reminds me, I need to get The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad.

The skeleton scene in "Jason and the Argonauts" scared me when I was young. Now, seeing how long it took him to do it, I marvel at his skill.

He'll be missed.

That's the scene I remember most.

I am glad that they spoke up about Medusa. I forgot all about her! Now, I know who created all those wonderful creatures. *sigh*

She'd look fabulous on my dressing table.

The dude made my childhood vastly more entertaining. RIP, Ray.
about my only happy memory of my father was as a kid during the xmas break - i'd cut my knee and didn't want to go visit with the stuffy aunts on my dad's side, so he ended up staying home with me. we watched the seventh voyage on b&w tv in front of an open fire, roasting chestnuts. :D

they were all great food for the imagination.

Ditto here. His Medusa scared the crap out of me as a kid, and when I watched the new Titans I did think the CGI Medusa was pretty wank.

I remember the little horse from Valley of Gwangi holding me spellbound too.

that's because it was. i fucking hate that movie.

It was too much. I liked Gemma Arterton's character in it, but I found all the effects WAY over the top. And the Stygian witches were god awful.

Love the original still.

A great man and unlike many people that we throw up the RIP and don't speak about who they are and why they matter Ray mattered. He was inspired by films like King Kong (quick one of you nerds go find me who King Kong was inspired by!) and left behind Speilberg, Jackson, Raimi and Lucas. I don't know what finer legacy a man in his particular field could have than those four men all claiming him as part of their inspiration. (And with Raimi and his work on Hercules and Xena it's pretty easy to see just how much he borrowed from this great man.)

He will be missed and if there is any justice in the cosmos whatever powers that be gave him a planet somewhere to call his own and carry on creating marvels.

Both versions of Titans sucked. I hate to break that to you all but it's time you faced facts.

Saying Casablanca sucked would be negative. Saying Clash of the Titans sucked is telling the truth.

Some people like B-movies, it's a release from reality and you don't have to think. Most of KNOW it's not high art!

Saying Gatsby is going to be a good remake because Leonardo DiCaprio is in it is the truth.

It's purely childhood nostalgia that makes me love it.
