Ratings "Off" but wins an "H"?

From what I've been told, an author can go back after a story is published and turn voting off at any time. So, an author can have voting active for a while, get the red H and then turn off voting afterward. The Red H stays on the listing once it's been earned, whether voting is currently active or not.

Side note, if an author turns off voting, they keep the red H, but lose the ranking in the Hall of Fame and contests.

That's correct. I know several writers who locked their catalogue down following troll campaigns, or when they stopped submitting content and moved on from Lit, but left their stories in place. It's not always to protect their garden of roses.

One writer I know here had her works troll slammed. Doesn't matter why. Over 48 hours one story was bombed from 4.6 to 3.8 by a particularly nasty piece of work.

The troll then started to attack her other stories so she stopped all voting and reported it to Laurel. The scores have been purged and are sitting slightly higher.

So, there can be legitimate reasons to hold the H and no score.

I thought it was cheesy when I saw people had done this, but then I picture the trolls losing their shit in their basements and have to smile. :)

I've noticed stories listed that have that wonderful red "H" next to them but for which ratings were turned off. Here is an example:

If stories aren't rated, how do they earn an "H"?

Don

Had a story rated 4.74 and watched over the space of three weeks while it steadily got one bombed till it was down below 4.5. Every day it dropped one point. This was a few months after it got published. Every time it climbed over again the one bombing started. So I waited till it went over and locked it. The red H remains but you can't vote. I left comments open.

Goodbye troll. Trouble is, locked, it will never get back up to the 4.74 where it started.

I know the author you selected. (great author BTW) has the same problem.

All but one of my submissions has a Red H. The one exception has climbed above 4.5 at least four times, and been one-bombed each time. If it gets above 4.5 again, you better believe that I am shutting off voting on it.

I suggested the author send a note to Laurel asking to get rid of the obvious troll votes. It naturally took a while for that to happen, but the scores are now back to pre troll levels.

So that's always an option.

While my writing isn't great, I've had two stories gain the "H" - one recent story and one old one.

Then get clobbered when I provoked the trolls in LW.
