I am a little upset. I just had my second story turned down. The reasons were it was 12 words too short, and I had two people speaking in one paragraph. I am sick and tired of having my stuff turned down. I know I don't suck, I have two stories under a different user name, but for some reason, I can't get these posted. Grrr...

12 words too short? I don't remember coming across a minimum word count before.

Sorry, if it's too short, it's too short. I think that's counted with an automated script, and turned down automatically.

As for the other thing...not too hard to split up, would it be? Stick to common prose conventions, not only to please the Lit gods, but to make your stories easier to read for readers.

Lit has a 750 Word minimum -- as counted by MS Word's word count function, or at least counted by the same rules.

I understand this, but I'm still pissed. I worked hard on the story, and it's turned down for crap.

I understand that you feel bad but you must understand that Lit has a set of guidelines and rules that all authors must follow to get published. :rose:

'Sa pisser, though. :rose:

I sympathize. On the other hand, this is a difficulty I will never have. I am prolix, and I like to have things happen for an appreciable reason.

*Chuckling* I had one turned down in 2002 because it was 748 words :D

But looking back, it's very hard to develop your characters, plot and settings with even 750 words. Every thing I've written since has been over 3000 and my stories are short.

I think I'd just toss in a redundancy somewhere if I hit that wall.

I had one returned 4 times, to make the paragraphs shorter. I finally figured out, they were more concerned with the way it looked on the screen, than any thing else. I just started sticking in random paragraph breaks and it went right through.

Okay, so I looked through my stories and fixed the problems with the two I got turned down. Cross your fingers... Thanks for the advice. :)

Alright, now just have faith. Pretty soon your stories will be accepted and you'll get your fair share of nasty feedback comments and 1-bombs just like the rest of us! :D
