One of these things the state requires us to do.

I hate going to these things! There is a lot of good and valid information to be had there, but I go and I look and I see all these freaking WHITE 1st Methodist Church types. Where are all the teachers and staff in a population split 50/50. Why do they all look the same? Talk the same? Think the same?

I know there are exceptions, it's just the demographics of where I live in the N. La. bible belt.

Yes, I smoke marijuana but this speaker seemed to create the impression that alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, and xstacy are the reasons for a decline in academics in the United States.

Horseshit.

And what is it with fucking bashing on raves. So fucking what? You would swear that it was "Satan" himself sponsoring them. Are there drugs at raves? Yes, plenty of them. Guess what, they are everywhere else too.

It just pisses me off!

Do these drugs aid young people in their education? Or could you characterize them as distractions to education?

So, I agree drugs are not reponsible for the decline of education, but they certainly don't help.

The major contributors are: Poor orginization, poorly paid teachers and lack of support and apathy by taxpayers.

When I say: Poorly paid teachers, what I really mean is, raise the level of expectations of teachers, and in turn raise the salary level. Don't just pay the same shitty teachers more money.

The Execeptions Are Definately In My City

These Folk Are So Tuned In And Fun!

Never A Bore:)

One Problem Of Mine Is That They Lump, Pot, In With The Big Girls, Like Heroin And Speed And Such!
As For Academically, I Totally Belive That There Is A Problem With "Burners". Kids Who Smoke WAY Too Much (cuz it's fun), WAY Too Fast.

You Are Making Yer Brain Work At At Furious Pace And Even More So As Your Education Continues! THIS IS NOT The Time To Start Smoking A Downer, Doper Kinda Drug, Right?

And EVERYTHING Else Is So Totally NOT Natural For Your Body That Any Should Be Completly Excluded...Well Except Perhaps A One Time Acid Trip Or Mushroom Cloud:D

I Would Say That Drugs Should Only Be Used After You Have Learned Enough To Forget Some Things.

Re: The Execeptions Are Definately In My City

Huh? Could you like uh, repeat that?

Of course not. Overall I would say they were distractions- right along with many of the other furniture of adolescent life.

If I may be so bold as to paint and extreme, therefore distorted, picture of what so many of the people running the show want in order to make a point: They want the fucking bible in school. Remember, I am using an extreme to make a point.

It's extremely problematic. The reason for academic decline (is there one? I don't read that kind of stuff- that's for people with education degrees- I teach networking) is poor teaching methods, coddling students, fear of liability, and overworked parents.

Politicians just throw money at the problem and say "I want to be the pro-education president" and stuff like that.

You could look at it another way, riff.

You could be thankful you didn't have to start the thread:

Ranting about having to go to "mandatory drug testing inservice."

Tru' dat!

He mentioned about wearing sunglasses indoors as a sign. I do it all the time! Heh!

Damned inservices...

Blood and body fluid precautions.

Hazmat.

Sexual Harassment.

So forth and so on. The same damned videos year after year...

What pisses me off is they always take place after school. I am sorry but by the time I put a day in with students I am fucking done. I want to go home. I want to leave the school. Plus I want to beat the damned traffic.

If I get stuck in Charlotte at rush hour, my forty minute drive can take two or more hours.

damn. at my school, they always did half days when they held inservices.

I just scope out the female teachers and start conversations with the ones that I think are hot, and even the ones I don't think are hot.

I don't mind going to thses things so much as the moralizing that comes from the fucking pulpit. These fuckers want the 10 commandments on the wall and the pledge of allegiance said before every class along with god bless america. They can kiss my ass.

You need to move down to south LA, riff.

I don't think they give a good goddamn about that shit around here.
