WELL THAT BURRRRNS IT...

Chapter 7 of Kinksspark was rejected by Lit.
The reason:

"While we welcome authors to publish shorter fiction on Literotica while promoting ebooks or other offsite projects on their profile page, out of respect for reader's feelings, we would rather not publish partial works as "teasers"."

I guess I got that because I had written at the bottom of pt 7:

I won't be submitting any more chapters of kinkSSpark to Lit. I have decide to seek an Ebook publisher instead.

WTF... Guess I should just tear the whole first 6 chapters out of my author's page. It wasn't getting any feedback anyway. I didn't INTEND to TEASE!!! I just decided there wasn't an audience for my kind of writing here at Lit, and let people know I wouldn't bore them any more.

WHY CAN'T WE SHARE BITS OF LITERATURE JUST FOR CONVERSATION PIECES AND WHAT FEW SPARKS OF PLEASURE IT MAY OFFER??? (Damn...Or does Lit consider that kind of writing "HIT AND RUN?"?!) I DIDN'T PLANT THE WORKS HERE AS TEASE!!! THEY ARE AN ARTISTIC, PERSONAL EXPRESSION PRESENTED IN EFFORT TO CONNECT IN A POSITIVE WAY WITH ANOTHER!!!

Nope. I have nothing to offer to the small and narrow minded..." "Free speech" my ass...
I will try again to get the mods to remove all that story's chapters, but the first request ----sent months ago---was NEVER ANSWERED!!!

If you used the email listed as a contact, it went off into the void. Why that's still listed as a contact so many places on the site, I'll never know.

You need to find Laurel's profile and send a PM ( Sticky threads at the top of this forum )

To delete by the normal means, start a new submission using the same title as the original ( or as much as will fit ) plus something such as *DELETE*

Then use the "notes" and "story" section to say that you wish to delete the story/chapter. You can probably request multiple chapter deletions in a single "delete" submission. Fill in the rest of the submission form with dummy entries, as they aren't important. Preview, and submit.

Thanks. I will try that.

You should also email Laurel to point out that your explanatory comment was just that; it didn't lead the reader anywhere else, so it shouldn't be considered a teaser. I expect it was a quite superficial glance at your comment that resulted in the misinterpretation.

Yes, I can partly understand superficial glances, as there are SO many submissions to read before publication.

I am not sure if I should bother Laurel, explaining the reason for my comment at end of chapter 7. I have already gone through the request to delete all associated chapters, via submissions form.

one with whom I collaborated on several of the chapters said it may have been misinterpreted as a promo piece. "they don't like promos" he said.

I replied:

it wasn't meant to be a promo, It was a work in progress, which I halted due to lack of public interest. Look at the paragraph, the main point asking why we can't post something just for whatever spark of good it may offer...

Also, look at their rejection reason: They are not against 'promo' of ebooks and other projects... Many authors have pics of their Ebooks in sig lines.

I can appreciate the 'study' and 'rough sketch' of pieces of art. They show the process of the finished creation. Those progressions interest me as well as the finished masterpiece. But I guess no one here at lit has that similar appreciation for works in progress...it must be 'all or nothing'."

Since I had only one piece of feedback ever on the Kinksspark progression, I just stopped the presentation, drop the curtain on the play. I'll take the piece somewhere else to finish it.

My barbed crown of frustration has doubled in size this morning. the barbs are dangling down into the heart.
I may write the death scene for Artina Heartflash now...

But no funeral procession...

The swan song (or ugly duckling quack) has already begun... I have just written The Death of Artina Heartflash poem. Perhaps I'll put it elswhere on another thread. Probably "Things That Make the Heart Weep Fire"

OK, not us. I can only speak for myself. I enjoyed your writing, though I don't expect many here do, and I enjoy your contributions here in the AH, including your visual art. I'll miss Artina, and I've known her for so little time...

There's no guessing -- that's exactly why they did it. I looked around and didn't find this in the FAQ, although it may be there and I just didn't see it. Other sites don't like this either -- why would they? I know that plenty of writers start stories and don't finish them, but that's different than knowing you will only post part of one.

I did this, actually, and took a lot of heat from readers on it when I posted the first three chapters of Young Blood (I have since taken them down). I got mine through, I'm guessing, b/c I didn't put anything like that particular line in my chapters. I had a line directing people to my profile for more information. I think I've changed my mind and decided I shouldn't have done that, despite providing ample info on my profile that no more would be posted. If the site policy prefers no teasers, then I should abide by that.

WTF... Guess I should just tear the whole first 6 chapters out of my author's page. It wasn't getting any feedback anyway. I didn't INTEND to TEASE!!! I just decided there wasn't an audience for my kind of writing here at Lit, and let people know I wouldn't bore them any more.

I would guess that you've gotten no feedback in part b/c you appear to have disallowed both public feedback and voting. Not everyone wants to email a comment. If you disable the feedback mechanism, you can't complain that you're not getting any feedback.

Not to mention that, as has been gone over many times in many threads, a small percentage of people will vote on a story, and an even smaller percentage will leave comments. You've taken away both of those options.

I realize you didn't mean to tease, but you have to think how that came across from their point of view. It sounds like a teaser.

WHY CAN'T WE SHARE BITS OF LITERATURE JUST FOR CONVERSATION PIECES AND WHAT FEW SPARKS OF PLEASURE IT MAY OFFER??? (Damn...Or does Lit consider that kind of writing "HIT AND RUN?"?!) As others have said, you should send a PM to Laurel to get a question answered. The email addresses appear to be ignored at best.

As for free speech -- please. That's been asked and answered. This is a privately-owned and -run site and they make the rules. No one is censoring you. If you want to post here, you have to abide by the rules, and there aren't many, so it shouldn't be a problem. One rule, or guideline, is that they don't like to publish partial works when the full work will be available elsewhere.

Of course we can post stories to start conversations and connect and things like that. I think you're missing the point. I agree you didn't post them as a tease, however, when you said you weren't going to post any more and you were going to find a publisher, the posted chapters became, in effect, a tease for the longer work.

I disabled the voting. i did NOT disable feedback option.

Just like any publisher, Lit.'s first concern is for their readers. Why carry a partial story that readers only know is partial after they've read seven chapters? By providing the note you said you did, you broke your contract with the readers.

well, Chapter 7 wasn't published anyway. I could just resubmit w/o that note at the end. But why? No comments=no audience.

I am unsubscribing to this thread now. This is a dead issue.

When I looked at the first two or three chapters, I saw that you had disabled PUBLIC feedback. I realize people can send private feedback, but a lot won't. Some want to leave anonymous public comments and they can't do that with your stories. As I said, few readers leave feedback as it is; disabling the mechanisms with which they can do that will not increase it.

It's not that you posted a sample of a longer work. It's that Lit has a very strict policy about not letting authors advertise or promote their non-Literotica work in their stories. You can promote your stuff in your sig line and in the AH sticky "Literotica Authors and their books," but you can't provide a link, a mention, or even a whispered aside promoting your extra-Lit stuff in your stories. Even shilling for your book in a regular post isn't allowed, once it's noticed.

Your comment about seeking a publisher was construed as advertising so they yentzed the whole piece. Remove the line and resubmit and it'll go through.

I publish excerpts here all the time, both as trial balloons and to keep my enthusiasm up, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It's frustrating that you can't tell readers it's an excerpt and that a longer version's available, but I understand Lit's unwillingness to turn itself into a free advertising venue for the thousands of promotion-starved authors who publish here.

It's also frustrating to us "readers" who come here to read a story (and are therefore exposed to the advertising that pays for this place) to start reading a chapter story only to have it end prematurely.

I'm sure that if I'd been reading the OPs story only to come to "and you can read the rest of this story by buying it on Skankyho.com" I'd be pissed and it would reflect poorly on this site.

I think it's a damn nice compromise on Kitty Mama's part to allow writers to post links in their sigs. That way if I, as a reader, have enough interest in a writers stuff I can find it. It also let's the writer post a much better link (and I think you have to acknowledge that Lit DOES generate a much larger audience/exposure/demand for your work which equates to increased sales.

That's a fair win/win/win to me as opposed to being all pissy about not getting to KNOWING post partial works like the OP.

Just say'in from a "consumers" standpoint.

Yeah. Any excerpt I post here works as a stand-alone story, more or less. But then, I tend to write porn episodically, where each chapter is a little sexual episode. I don't think I could sustain a story over the length of a novel if my life depended on it.

Agreed. If the story doesn't end, it doesn't end, but to put it up only to get me to buy it--without warning me upfront that it's only part of a story and the rest will need to be purchased--will most certainly make me angry at the writer and the site that posted it.

Lit advertises itself as free erotica. Not "free teasers" for erotic you'll have to buy if you want to get to the good stuff.

I agree with this, which is why when I had the three chapters of my book -- as I wrote previously -- I directed people to my profile so they'd know up front. It would have been better if I could have just put it in the story, but this thread illustrates why you can't.

But back to the OP, there are some other problems she needs to deal with. First, she disabled voting and public feedback, the latter at least on the first three chapters. She then writes that she will stop posting b/c she isn't getting much feedback which to her indicates there's not much of an audience. As I said, if you turn off the main feedback mechanisms, you can't complain when you don't receive feedback.

Second, the email she sent months ago. A couple of people have noted that this is not the way to go, as emails seem to be lost in the ether -- you need to send a PM. If she is going to leave the thread and not see the advice on how to deal with that, that's fine, but it doesn't work for me. You can't wear dark glasses at night and complain you can't see.

PEOPLE, GET A LIFE!! AND TAKE OFF YOUR OWN BLINDERS!!! THE PUBLIC COMMENTS WERE NEVER DISABLED!!! Every one of my control board options has "YES" checked by "allow public board comments". AND I NEVER MEANT TO PROMO NOR TEASE. I JUST DECIDED THERE WAS NO AUDIENCE, AND WANTED TO LET PUBLIC KNOW I WOULDN"T POST ANY MORE CHAPTERS!!!! SHEESH. Had I any readers all they needed to do was ask and I'd send them free copies in email! You all do more whining than I did.

Story has been requested to be removed. SEE THIRD POST. Now go eat some cheerios.
*and add me to your ignore list. I am increasng mine.*

Artina, Go check ch 1 -- the only thing you can do is send private feedback. There are no public comments allowed on Ch 1. I did check the others and yes, public comments are enabled. It didn't look that way yesterday, but either I went too fast or there was a glitch. Also, there is no voting allowed on any of them -- I saw no stars for voting -- so that method of feedback was missing.

You know, for someone who started a thread you get awfully pissy when people start discussing the issues you raised. Maybe we're not the ones who need cheerios.

After all, my friends, this BB thread is cheaper than group therapy. Peace and love to all.

I think the thread is entitled "Rant," and now it's gone reflexive. It must be time for metaranting...
