So far 6 have been hit and hundreds more targeted. I think it's time for a covert war. Killing a few, or more won't hurt my feelings.

"Russian-speaking cybercriminals in recent days have launched a coordinated attack targeting U.S. hospitals already stressed by the coronavirus pandemic with ransomware that analysts worry could lead to fatalities.

In the space of 24 hours beginning Monday, six hospitals from California to New York have been hit by the Ryuk ransomware, which encrypts data on computer systems, forcing the hospitals in some cases to disrupt patient care and cancel noncritical surgeries, analysts said.

The criminals have demanded a ransom ranging upward of $1 million to unlock the system, and some hospitals have paid, they said."...

Edited: Shit sorry for the title. My 'not taking time to check my spelling' caught me again.

Those administrators should be charged with aiding and abetting.

And this funny money stuff needs to be trackable and reversible.

Really? That's an extremely ignorant statement. What choice do they have? They have a hospital full of patients and the computer sytems are now an intergral part of the treatment process. Yea, they could refuse and let some die, but would you accept that if it were one of yours? I didn't think so.

The UK's security services foil hundreds of Russian based attacks a week. What is the CIA doing?

Secure their systems properly. Maintain daily (or more frequent) backups to restore systems from. Anything so they're not funding further activities..

That's not the business of government. It IS the business of large network backbone companies like Level 3 (or whatever it's called now), the Goo Monster and Amazoff ... the companies that manage and host traffic.

In the US they appear to be failing. The UK services are protecting critical infrastructure such as electricity supplies etc. But they will go after hackers for everything.

Gee ! Could our ‘resident tell Putin to have these assholes shot ?
Fuck no! Putin is getting a cut
Trump wants the same power as his “lovers”

In the UK it's regarded as a crime to extort money. So it is the business of the police and the various government entities who are involved in crime fighting.

What a strange country the USA seems to be where everyone only looks out for themselves and to hell with their neighbour. No wonder people stock up with guns.

“It is better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.”

These are the same forces working hard to get Trump reelected. The board Trumpettes must be so proud.

I agree. But backups will do nothing if you can't access your system, which they can not. They could replace all the servers, but how long would that take? Or they could wipe them and start over, not so easy as it sounds. And not funding further activities is a great aim, but when you have to choose between lives or paying, I think the lives come first, retribution can come later.

When citizen lives are at stake it is the responsibility of government (law enforcement specifically) from local to federal. I'll be damned if I want to live in a dystopian "RollerBall" form of society where the corporations hold sway over lives, any more then they already do.
