It didn't even hit me at the tome, but the more I think about it, the more I feel it was/is intentional.

I'm working on a craft project and I wanted a small bride figurine, cheap. I though ... hey ... cake topper! The kind they use on wedding cakes.

So in my shopping travels, I stopped by Hobby Lobby. All they had were a few that were the bride and groom molded together, which won't work in my case since there is no way to separate them. Tried Michael's. Same thing. No big deal, I figured I'd just search the web and find something.

But I go to thinking about it. We all know the case involving Hobby Lobby and health care, right? We know the company is owned by Bible Thumpers and run the company in a way that forces their beliefs on their employees. For this reason, I try not to go there very much.

I'm not sure if Michael's is operated the same way or not.

So, my thought is ... do they do this so you can't buy two and use just the two brides or two grooms on a cake? Are they that devious and conniving?

Their wedding cake supplies are always kind of limited. Just not what they specialize in. A baking supply store is your best bet. Or online.

Don't know how devious they are but it's their store so they'll do as they wish. JoAnns isn't any better for that stuff. I go to Michaels soemtimes but couldn't say about their wedding supplies since I never looked there. Everything else they have is on par with Hobby Lobby though.

I am very well acquainted with how Hobby Lobby and Michaels merchandisers do business. I assure you, if they could sell lone male and lone female cake toppers they would do so because it would increase their profits by about 40%. They would LOVE you to buy two.

Like it or not, the vast majority of people want to buy a male/female combined cake topper. They aren't buying it for craft purposes like you; they are buying it to put on a wedding cake. Don't let the media fool you, gays make up 2% of the population. If you estimate from those how many are getting married (now that the media doesn't show up) the number is miniscule. It would not be profitable to stock what you are requesting, and there is no reason to listen to you since you aren't using it for its intended purpose in the first place. (If you were, you wouldn't just buy the cake topper, you'd also but shit to make table party favors, decorations, thank you cards etc.) N

othing nefarious is happening here, you don't need to build a cospiracy because you couldn't find a wedding product suitable to your crafting purposes.

Yeah, that's about right. Hobby Lobby sells lots of stuff that would seem to go against conservative Christians ideology but it's what people want and pay for.

The corporate big wigs aren't paying attention to individual skus. How could they? Buyers on the other hand, well they get a bonus based upon the skus they select performing to a certain amount of success, based upon margin and turnover for its given allocated floor space. If their department fails, they get no bonus. If a buyer could get people to buy two cake toppers instead of one, trust me, he or she would do so... and become a hero in the company.

If you can find a Toy store that isn't too Christian Fundamentalist for your liking, try looking into action figures for your project.
