I was once in a four-year relationship with a Florida woman who despised it. It was clear-cut in her mind - if it rained, she didn't leave the house. It caused problems whenever she came over to Wales, because it's more or less everyday weather.

What's your relationship with rain?

I adore it. I like the thrill of getting caught out in it, and having to run home breathless and soaked to the skin. I like the sound of a downpour on a dark day, and throw the window open so that I can listen to it while I write. I like going for a walk in it, and feeling it against my skin. I like the isolation of being caught in a downpour driving, when the surface spray is so bad that everyone slows to a 20mph crawl, and I can lower the windows, listen to some good music and smoke a cigarette. I like spending my nights on a windswept beach, diving in and out of caves for shelter against the storm.

I absolutely love it. And I suppose it's just as well, really. Especially this weekend ;)

So what kind of effect does the rain have on you? Speak to me...

Any rain is worthy of celebration. We don't see anywhere near enough of the stuff.

In a normal season - summer rain is for dancing in. Winter rain is for watching from somewhere warm and dry.

having lived in north wales and now in west cornwall I just have to put up with it. Like now. Hasn't stopped for ages. Looks like summer's come!

Eh, it's mostly an inconvenience personally, but it does make me feel cozy when it's cold out and I'm warm in. But another part of my relationship is a bit more abstract, "rain makes grain": In the right amounts rain falling is the sound of affluence, comfort, security, laden Thanksgiving tables, happy "peasants."

As long as I'm not wrestling with a wheelchair, I love it. I especially like to stay in bed & listen to it hit the roof. My bedroom has a slopey ceiling for that very reason.

I like rain. But don't think I'd like to live where it rained all the time.

I LOVE rain, but not as much as I love hail. Whenever it starts to hail I'll rush outside and watch the little ice balls bounce off the ground (and me). If it hails a lot I can be seen out in the middle of it stomping around in the ice like a little 5 year old kid again. Ah memories. Back home it hailed all the time, but here in California it's like once a decade (at least this part of California).

Stupid California!

as long as it is not thundering...love it...especially the sound of it beating down on a tin roof

Rain is a fourletter word in the coastal valleys or Oregon, Washington and British Columbia.

It is currently thumping in large drops on my roof at the moment and inhibiting the growth of my garden.

A damp Amicus...

We love rain and storms, wind and hail and lightning and thunder and tornadoes.

In fact, with the spat of storms we've been lately having it's been intense fun.

Hubby, science teacher/budding meteorologist/wannabe storm chaser is often outside with the camcorder recording interesting cloud formations, lightning strikes, storm fronts, wall clouds or even rotation for his class lectures and powerpoints.

Personally, I don't like to be outside in the hail. It hurts.

But I love to be inside, warm, while the storm gods wail outside. Winds whipping up our trees, thunderous rain on the roof, power displayed - it's always inspiring.

We have a storm about to plow through in the next hour, too. I'm curious how strong it's going to be.

:)

I love rain. Sitting inside, wrapped in a blanket and sipping hot chocolate while writing or reading, or cuddling is my idea of a lovely afternoon.

Rain helps me go to sleep, too.

I don't mind getting wet walking somewhere while its raining. I'll pretend I don't have an umbrella, because as long as I'll be warm afterwards, I don't mind getting soaked by the rain.

Walks in the rain, or just hearing it against the window, helps my creativity, too. Light rain makes me think, heavy rain makes me passionate.

I like hot summer rains. Humid. I like the acid rain that falls, to be honest. It's abnormally warm. For a rain like that I'd roll around in the mud and grass...stand under drainpipes and bathe in it. That's when I go barefoot.
