You may have always wanted to do it, to be on the radio spinning your favorite tunes for the masses. You may have made mix-tapes for people, introducing yourself, introducing the things you think are important.

Music has been a powerful force in your life, your mood, your evolution and your art.

This thread is slightly different from “I am Music,” in that I encourage you to create a “set,” not just share a song or two. Create a series of at least three to five songs, a collection that you believe has a common theme.

Communicate an idea, set an atmosphere, paint a portrait, discuss a mood, examine a particular artist or musical style, introduce a concept, visit a space. Talk about what's happening to you now; create a world for someone else to live in for a while.

Ideally, you'll frame it for writers, so that it can be a tool for those who want to focus on craft in new ways. 'Here is music for writing angry scenes,' or 'Here is music to fuck to so you can write about it later,' or 'Here are what five musicians have to say about a particular topic.' You get the idea.

I'm going to move the various episodes of Radio Free Jezebel that I have already posted over to this thread. Perhaps they will inspire ideas. You don't have to use the title "Radio Free Jezebel" for your episodes. Perhaps it's "Songs to Lose Your Virginity By" or "Radio Acid Flashback" or "The Kick Ass and Take Names Hour." Whatever.

Hey Mistah, Hey Mistah DJ , tell me if you love me, and turn the music up.

have fun,

I am totally jacking my own thread for a moment. (gee, is that allowed? I'm new here, y'know...) because I'm really blown away.

I went back to look at my submissions on this board, look at the numbers and suchlike. I hardly ever go there. And I was astounded.

People have actually been reading my work. And on a couple of occasions, they have said amazingly cool things about it, things that just blow me away with their kindness and beauty.

I'm not going to try to explain it. But in any number of ways, this community, this "Litworld", is really changing, improving, adding dimensions and valuable challenges to, my actual life. Okay, maybe I'll try to explain a little bit:

Publishing? Fuck that. Fame, money, recognition, status, authority, validation? I dunno, maybe I gave those up for Lent. But to have at least one person, and golly, sometimes even more than one person, say, I Got this. I Saw it. It Worked for me. To say, you offered me that and I accepted it.

Man, there's nothing like it.

I have found the Fat Lady, and it is You People.

And unless you've read Salinger, you have no idea what an immense compliment that is. But it is, trust me. Thank you.

I am the only person awake in the whole world.

may I ease my way in
so to speak

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6ERe23kSBM

mmmmm Asian cleavage

and the lyrics:

When there's nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
One more son
If you can hold on
If you can hold on, hold on
I wanna stand up, I wanna let go
You know, you know - no you don't, you don't
I wanna shine on in the hearts of men
I want a meaning from the back of my broken hand Another head aches, another heart breaks
I am so much older than I can take
And my affection, well it comes and goes
I need direction to perfection, no no no no

Help me out
Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out

And when there's nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
These changes ain't changing me
The cold-hearted boy I used to be

Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down

I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
I got soul, but I'm not a soldier
...

Yeah, you know you got to help me out
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
You know you got to help me out
You're gonna bring yourself down
You're gonna bring yourself down
Yeah, oh don't you put me on the backburner
Yeah, you're gonna bring yourself down

Over and out, last call for sin
While everyone's lost, the battle is won
With all these things that I've done
All these things that I've done
If you can hold on
If you can hold on

I can't, of course, speak for anyone else here, but I am quite happy to watch you jack your own thread. Or even to jack it for you, should you find that prospect attractive. I am actually quite accomplished (*scuffs feet modestly but proudly*) at jacking threads. :)

"Threadbare" is an odious portmanteau that only obfuscates my lofty, and one hopes, mutual, goals and aspirations.

But a monkey wearing headphones will always see only a simple, fleshly meaning. Bad monkey. :)

Very cool AV, by the way. I like that one. That typewriter one made me think you were working on a revision of Hamlet.

Geez, I try to eat right and run every day all summer long and still she calls me fat.

I jack everyone's threads. I am an equal opportunity jacker.

Watch closely while I un-jack myself...

Here's five seconds of what plays in my head (with one blip thrown in there because I have blips in my head and one must be realistic)

Youtube didn't seem to have songs that I love for their lyrics...bad Youtube.

Y'all have permission to jack anything you want in here, long as you put some music sets in there somewhere. It'll be a big ol' circle jack with a great soundtrack.

And darlin', you're so NOT fat. I can tell.

Play me some Music For Hospital Waiting Rooms, folks. I need it.

Back asap.

Thank you thank you everybody for the good thoughts and the fine tunes. It's helping.

Emergency surgery - sudden serious abscess - undetected for much longer it would have gone septic and caused blood poisoning -watching my precious beloved cry with pain - Drug reps in natty pinstripe suits strolling casually by, their Italian shoes tapping on linoleum, while we wait next to his gurney in an inoffensively- decorated hallway, listening to him moan - morphine pumps - doctors giving worst case scenarios - form after form after form - Redbook magazine and romance novels with titles like "Crimson Fire" on a shelf in the waiting room - the doctor discusses wound care while I try to swallow a bite of a cold eggroll - and I've put up with this beautiful and amazing man for 18 years, so I get to be the only thing with an option of killing him.

And meanwhile, in this terribly surreal environment, I am mumbling the Four Great Vows and the Hail Holy Queen and THIS is what's running through my head. Some gift of the most twisted angels in my pantheon, no doubt.

Enjoy.

You and yours have my thoughts, of course, and whatever energy my wish and hope might help.

Since this is a music thread, let me offer Horowitz playing Chopin, since it is so beautiful.
