Racists beat suntanned white man

That's terrible!

I was flattered when someone mistook me for being Asian once.

Then again...I think I was just REALLY tired that day.

I have no idea if the story is true or not, but it is certainly possible.

Back many years ago when "afro" hair styles were popular for people of any race, my blonde hair was short and curly. Not quite an afro, but along the same lines. I came back from a 2 week vacation in the sun with very dark skin. I also have bright blue eyes. Then I was sent to work in a different city where no one knew me for a month. It took a week or two, but finally a couple of the guys I was working with seriously asked me if I were black or white! I thought it was one of the funniest things I'd ever been asked. It wouldn't have been so funny if they'd beat me thinking I was black.

I can totally relate... I have black curly hair, full lips, and on a good summer, extremely dark skin. Not that it matters to me though, it's just kinda funny when people refer to me as "That one black guy..."

How idiotic can some people be??

I am usually light skinned 'cept when I get a tan and then I don't get really dark. My natural hair color is dirty blonde and my eyes are a blueish grey color. Even so, I have been asked, a million times or more, if I am hispanic because my last name is of spanish decent. People swear I must be puerto rican, cuban, or mexican. I just laugh and tell 'em 'yeah, I'm an albino Mexican.' You would be suprised at the number of people who actually believe me too. I can't begin to tell you how many times people have snubbed their nose at me cause of my last name. (It is my married name but I refuse to change it cause it's my childrens birth name!)

Racism and prejudice is so stupid, I don't think anyone can consider themselves intelligent and be racist at the same time.

racists beat suntanned...

it happened in Manchester suburbs, UK. Some sick sob's around aren't there. Would it have made a headline if he'd really been black/asian/ Hypocrisy rules uk

Prejudice is a disease. Being of a non-white race in a small predominantly white town, I've seen it rear it's ugly head many, many times. The ignorance of it all is what astounds me. I mean seriously, if you're going to be racist at least get my race right first. I couldn't begin to count the number of times I've had racial slurs thrown at me that don't even apply to me. Not that they apply to anyone for that matter.

that is just plain sad.

i think it should be legal for racist people who beat up others like that to be tied to a stake and subjected... by any volunteer, exactly what they made their victim suffer.

These kind of things really scare the hell out of me. My sons are of mixed race, and go to school in the deep south. They have lived in a small town all their lives, and don't really know how to deal with prejudice.

I live in northern Canada and live with people of all races
I dont understand how someone can beat another just because there colours diffrent?????

I agree 100%. I am light skinned and blue eyed. I have not been discriminated against because of my appearance, until the love of my life happened to be African-American with a gorgeous head of dreads. I have never been so pissed in my life until I started to feel the impact of true discrimination. This experience helped me see the sexism discrimination I had been raised with, and realized my own folks were clueless. The sad part is, they didn't even realize the prejudice they believed in themselves. I was very happy to lecture them into a somewhat awareness. I cannot tolerate a human that will not listen to reason, and thankfully, my mother learned a few things from me.

Scares me that I would have been considered superior from a horrible racist like hitler. I fit his profile. blonde, blue eyed. Those are recessive genes. how could someone even consider a recessive gene to be superior? yet society is still very accepting that *I* am the norm. wrong wrong wrong. it disgusts me that I have an advantage because of that. I want to be judged for who I am.

sorry for ranting. this is a very sensitive subject. I know that because of how I look (white, blonde, blue eyed) that I have had advantages in life. There is no reason for it, and in my naivity, took advantage of it before I saw the world.
now I'm just plain mad and wish I could change it.

and any chance I have to change one persons mind, I take it.

again, sorry to rant. just pisses me off when I see injustice, and I don't have the money to make a big difference. another thorn in my side. But I am happy to state my opinion in whatever medium I can.

good example!
i am hispanic living in florida. the other day i went to a place near by and in this place you had to sit down and wait until you were called by your name. i noticed everytime they called a person with a spanish name they will tell them that they had to wait until the end for a translator.
that was until they call me. they told me the same thing and told them right in front of everyone there that i did not need a damn translator because i knew the english language.
how stupid can people be?

On a sad note, my father stopped talking to me when he found out that i was dating a black girl (notice that I do NOT use african-american, she is american and her family is american). I haven't seen or spoke to him in over 6 years and now tell everyone he is dead. That is so much easier that explaining his prejudices. That girl and I are now married. The weird thing is, we are the first generation to be raised to think that racism was taboo and wrong, then get rejected for practicing what we were taught.

That is sad. What is sadder is that it works both ways.

I am as WASP as they come. However I do tan well and I have dark hair (green eyes screw up the look). I often buy cig's from a store at our local first nation reservation. Both for the fact that there cheaper and the convenience of it since it is on my commute route.

The best service I have ever received in that store (friendly, courteous) was the day they asked me for my "Band Card" (signifies aboriginal status). Coincidence? When I politely told them I wasn't native....back to the cold shoulder.

Off the topic of racism, but did anybody hear about hte passengers on the Southwest flight that beat another passenger to death because he was trying to get into the cockpit? Amazing.

HOLY SHITZOO!!

I'm a light skinned African-American and I am always mistaken for Peurto Rican. That may be why I blend in pretty good with my Mexican girlfriend and her friends.
