Will Eisner is dead at 87. He virtually invented what we know today as comic books. A pioneer on the level of Charles Dickens, D.W. Griffith and Ernie Kovaks.

I don't know much about the genre, but I admire originality. It's why I admire Tolkien: to people who don't know better, he's just one of countless writers of epic fantasy trilogies with the same basic theme, but when you know he created the genre, he's a genius.

Eisner must have been grateful to know there were fans who knew the difference and would keep his reputation alive.

I hope that before he died, he revealed the secret of how comic book heroines do action scenes in stiletto heels.
