Late one night at KHAI Radio, with studio's in the basement of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on the beach at Waikiki, Don Ho and his band, "The Alii'es" came on my after midnight radio show and talked until the sun came up.

A most talented man, with a degree in Sociology and a Jet Pilot in the USAF, Don Ho was perhaps the most casual and loved entertainer I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing.

Under his auspices, I met and interviewed dozens of entertainers, musicians and movie stars from all over the world and I remember his kindness and gentleness with only fondness.

Aloha, Don...it was always a pleasure...

Thank you Selena...each passing year it seems I lose more of those I knew and treasured in past years...a sadness I did not foresee.

Since I surely have not lived the 'good' life, in terms of longevity, I suppose the perversity of 'good' genes gets the blame....grins...such a deal

yes, you poor thing... ;)

(btw... you need to quit smoking, grandpa! :p )

Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Don Ho . . . One by one the immortals pass . . .

Slightly facetious, that (smartass, Roxanne  ), but yeah, I gave an "awww" when I saw this news. :rose:

BTW, on Vonnegut, I was always amazed by his trip to Biafra in the midst of the genocide there in 1970. The image of that great humanist soul venturing into that madness. I thought of that during Vana's recent trip to a different tragic African hellhole. Another great soul venturing into a sea of pain . . .

Geez, lady, much as I love you, quitting smoking, drinking and chasing ladies is what I do? Aside from a little scribbling now and then...oh, by the way, just took a job at a small newspaper out here in the boonies....sports writing of all things....

I really do miss Don Ho, he always put on quite a show at Duke Kahanamoku's in the International Market Place in Waikiki and had a lovely estate in Kaneohe...on the dry side.

I was never as big a Vonnegut fan as many, nor Kerouac, although they surely earned their places in Literature. More Hemingway and Steinbeck oriented, I guess.

Speaking of the 'immortals', in a different sense; I watched several movies the other day, guess it was a Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones marathon or something I had the thought of what major contributions those two have made. So...time marches on, a new set of 'immortals' on a new horizon...I guess, that our kids and grandkids will revere.
