Carrie Frances Fisher (October 21, 1956 – December 27, 2016) was an American actress, screenwriter, author, producer, and speaker. She was known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars films. Fisher was also known for her semi-autobiographical novels, including Postcards from the Edge, and the screenplay for the film of the same name, as well as her autobiographical one-woman play, and its nonfiction book, Wishful Drinking, based on the show. Her other film roles included Shampoo (1975), The Blues Brothers (1980), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), The 'Burbs (1989), and When Harry Met Sally... (1989).

I wasn't optimistic about her survival prospects but really hoped there'd be an outside chance.

I was so sure she was going to pull through. I'm not sure why I did. Jesus......:(

This sucks. This year has been a horrendous one for the stars I grew up watching, and those who sung the soundtrack of my adolescence.

With celebrity losses, I tend to feel the loss of their talent, often unfullfilled potential and miss their work. I know their persona, their characters, but not them.

This one feels like a personal loss, and that feeling came out of nowhere. I had such a crush on the character as a young man and then grew to understand how troubled and pained her life was.

May she rest well, finally at peace.

Tell the ones you love how you feel. One never knows when your time here will be over.
RIP Ms. Fisher.

I get particularly irritable when I read "2016, can you just fuck off now" type posts in relation to celebrity deaths. It's not a fucking period of time that has some kind of fucking personal vendetta against celebrity and your/our relationship with them or their art. It's the fucking nature of living. People die. Sometimes a lot of them, especially as we age. Fuck!

Fuck off with that stupidity, Facebookers.

FUCK!

*breathe*

Preach it, sister.

Aah how very sad. No fan of Star Wars but seen her a lot in the Graham Norton show and she was very, very funny.

Gosh. :(

I read your post Rainshine and while I'm sick of the fuck off 2016 part as well -I have to say- 2016 has been a shocker. Not just celebrity deaths for me, but good friends and family members as well. It's been a sad year.

I dreamt that I died last night. This is how bad it is. And in my dream all I could think of was wishing I'd written a letter to my daughter.

I had a bit of a crush on Princess Leia back in the day. I've seen all of the Star Wars movies and enjoyed the banter between her and Han Solo. Loved her feisty role.

Rest in peace beautiful lady.

Best known for her role as Leia, she was a strong, unapologetic, and beautiful woman who had to conquer many obstacles - most of them within herself - during her life.

She had a spirit that reached beyond the Star Wars galaxies and Hollywood glitz, and touched and helped many with her poignant and honest writing.

“Carrie holds such special place in the hearts of everyone at Lucasfilm it is difficult to think of a world without her. She was Princess Leia to the world but a very special friend to all of us. She had an indomitable spirit, incredible wit, and a loving heart. Carrie also defined the female hero of our age over a generation ago. Her groundbreaking role as Princess Leia served as an inspiration of power and confidence for young girls everywhere. We will miss her dearly.” – Kathleen Kennedy

This. Very sad to see her go.

Got any more little surprises in store for us, 2016? We get it, you hate us, there's no need to labor the point.
