I was just watching Eve's Bayou last night and it occured to me that one of the many things that make this such an amazingly beautiful movie (aside from the stunning cinematography) is the depth of the characters, the cadence of speech, and the poignant, beautiful, and often painful observations.

"Sometimes I feel like I've lost so much, I have to find new things to lose. All I know is, there must be a divine point to it all and it's just over my head.

Then, when we die, it will all come clear and we'll think 'so THAT was the damn point.' And sometimes I think there's no point at all, and that's the point.

All I know is that most people's lives are a great disappointment to them, and no one leave this earth without feeling terrible pain. And if there's no deivine explanation at the end of it al, well...that's sad."
~Aunt Mozelle Baptiste in Eve's Bayou

If you've never seen this movie, boy are you missing out. It's more than worth a rent. Filmed in 1997 and was snubbed for an Oscar by Titanic, of all things.

What are some of your quotable movies? The quotes can be sad, happy, silly, deep, thoughtful......

In the spirit of movies that were snubbed by Titanic. Which should have lost half it's categories. Partic best picture to either As good as it gets or LA confidential. Both far superior films.

As good as it gets.

What if this really is all there is. What if this is as good as it gets.

Thanks for the post, Chronicle! I'm sooo jealous that you get to live in Canada.

from Serenity

"Is that the primary buffer panel? did the primary buffer panel just fall off my ship for no apparent reason?"
"Looks like"
"Attention please...this is your captain speaking. We seem to be having some trouble with our landing sequence. We will probably experience some slight turbulence, and then...explode."
"Are we really gonna explode? I don't wanna explode"
"Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Jayne, why do you have so many guns?"

then later on:

"GEE...it sure would be nice if we had some GRENADES, don't you think?"

"Memory is a collection of images, some illusive, others printed indelibly on the brain. The summer I killed my father, I was ten years old."

~opening quote from Eve's Bayou

"The Notebook" just may be the most poignant movie I've ever seen. I really had no interest in seeing it, but out of sheer boredom I decided to rent it, and I'm so glad I did. I'm a sucker for a good love story.

"I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who's ever lived: I've loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough." -- Duke

"That's my sweetheart in there. Wherever she is, that's where my home is." -- Duke

I loved The Notebook, too! What a love story!

Because many of the lines are so very plain, I love "quoting" from sin city. It gives me a devilish joy to say some things as Marv or Hartigan. Though i can't do willis's Voice. But I've been told I can almost do Marv, Funny considering Mickey Rourke Easily doubles my weight. But common lines that I've said. With the exception of hitmen. I think I was being a Jack and said either freshmen or my friends Rival Frat. Sin City is a really good movie and the fact that there are no real heroes, Just people to sin for a better code, or honest men. So I enjoy the movie on many levels.

"Good boy"
"Shot and a brew. And keep 'em comin"
" I love hitmen. no matter what you do to them you don't feel guilty"
"Feelin good bob. Good enough to kick your ass."
On these boards I've used this one a few times.
"After a while All I'm doing is pounding wet hunks of bone so I stop."

More just normal lines.
"Got any beers" For when I know they do, and I really want a rickards.
"A smoker's a smoker when the chips are down." Especially fun when my frineds and I are playing risk. and One of them starts smoking because he's losing. So fun to tilt my head back and forward and croak that out.
"I'll be right out" Fun for all and every occasion when people are waiting. More so when you do not appear immediately but unexpectedly.

If I think of any new ones I shall edit and post them here.

And if the watchmen Movie Ever comes out I shall quote that one endlessly. If only because Rorshach is so quotable.

It might be a purely cultural phenomenon, but I LOVE the movie I'm Gonna Git You, Sucka. A wonderful satire of the Blaxploitation films about "black superheros" of the 70's, like Shaft.

I used to watch this movie and wonder if anyone outside of the black culture had seen and appreciated the humor.

Anyway...I'm rambling....couple of quotes from I'm Gonna Git You, Sucka..

"So, it's just you 57 cops against KUNG FU JOE? Master of KUNG-FU, KARATE, JIU-JITSU, and all kinds of other shit you ain't never heard of! HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!"

~Kung Fu Joe in his final showdown with the law before they blow his pitiful ass away.

-------------------------------------------

"My bitch better have my money
Through rain, sleet, or snow
My whore better have my money
Not half, not some, but all my cash
'Cause if she don't,/I'm gonna put my foot in her ass."

~FlyGuy's poem for the "talent" segment for the Pimp of the Year pagent.

from Heartbreak Ridge where Clint Eastwood is talking to Marsha Mason about their marriage.
"I want to know what you wanted from our relationship?"
She laughs and Says "Relationship? lol Hell i THOUGHT we were married!!"

I laugh everytime it comes to this part in the movie.

I watched I'm gonna git you, sucka. I enjoyed it at the time, too, but it's been forever ago.... so long that I can't even remember the lines you're quoting. I think I liked hollywood shuffle better. anyway, it might be time for a rental.... check sucka out again....

since you asked if anyone outside the black culture had seen and appreciated that one, let me ask you this.... have you seen and what is your opinion of undercover brother? I went to a matinee.... there were only about 15-20 people there and I'm pretty sure I was the only white guy. I laughed my ass off, and I think I might have laughed more than anyone else there..... it kind of made me wonder if I should feel guilty for laughing. I just thought it was hilarious... I've probably seen it 20 times, and I still laugh my ass off.

Let's see:

"Send someone back for a shitload of dimes"

"No I'm not joking and stop calling me Shirley"

"He is NOT Mel Torme"

"Who's brain was it?" "Abby something"

"I have been, and shall always be, your friend"

"You've got to ask yourself one question. Do you feel lucky? Well do ya, Punk?"
