i have no clue really as i, sadly, only speak english on good days and vella-ese the rest of the year.. but i think
"love's a bitch?"
anxious to see if im right.:D

As far as I recall dog - dogs.

Amazingly enough it was used as an endearing term by my ex, so therefore also means sister. LOL :D Joking.

The english title actually is "Love's a Bitch". Dunno if that was the original intent though. I haven't seen it, but here in sweden the title was translated to "Älskade hundar" which means "Beloved dogs"

Good film Snoops.

I understood it to mean "bitch", but you need P. on this one.

According to Free Translation Online the translated meaning is: “Loves Dogs”

Of course, this leave one with the usual uncertainties, such as, is “Loves” to be understood as a verb with “Dogs” its object; or is “Loves” a noun with “Dogs” still the object, but now the object of a possessive.

It makes a difference.

These cybernetic translators won’t really be very useful until they can also use the term translated in a sentence.

But it’s FREE . . . actual free, not the usual Internet definition, free.

Well, so we got a lot of answers here that all make sense.
Since the theme of love in the film is shown through the love for dogs any title concerning dogs would fit perfectly.

'Love's a bitch' would be a title that also suits the film very well because it shows how love can truly fuck up things. Or how love sometimes is fucked up.

Since it wasn't translated at all here in germany I can't figure it out.

Anyway, it's a damn good flick. I heard good things about it but I never thought it'd turn out this good.

So I guess we desperately need Peridta here, aaaahhhh P, come to save the day. :)

Since I've just got a few years of high school spanish (taken years ago  ), my mind always translated it in the same direct, literal fashion as Burly's online translator. Love's a bitch definitely makes more sense. :D

To throw another fly in the ointment, the "o" ending is masculine, an "a" ending would be feminine. Now you have more choices. :)

But isn't perro a masculine word regardless of the sex of the dog (or person) in question?

Here I am. All the above are good answers. Perro = dog (perra = female dog). "Amores perros" is a play on words, e.g., amor es perro = love is a dog/bitch; amores is plural so fits with the various loves depicted in the film.

I love this film, have it on DVD and watch it regularly, sometimes just one of the stories (the first is my fave). It's captures a real Mexican-ness and makes me homesick for my girlhood (not spent in Mexico but among people like many of those in the film).

Perdita

p.s. I also love the director's (Alejandro Iñárritu) later film, "21 Grams". And for another great Mexican film see "Y tu mamá también" by Alfonso Cuarón (who directed the latest H. Potter film).

Thnx so much Perdita.

And it really is a fantastic film, though I have to say that whenever I hear someone say the word 'Richie/Ricci' I kinda feel annoyed. :D

And I think I will check out the other flick you mentioned plus I hope that 21 grams will soon come out on DVD because I missed it in the thetres but heard good things about it.
