Just had an idea....

Anybody up for a small, improvised, anonymous writing contest right about now?

Flash fiction, forum based, no awards, just for fun and honor.

Say the word and I'll make one happen.
Sure!
So, is anyone else interrested? I'll gladly arrange it, but not if there's only one participant.

Here's what I propose.
  • Flash fiction, max 500 words. Or maybe shorter? Longer? What's reasonable?
  • 24 hour deadline, from the opening of the contest thread.
  • Some kind of theme, presented in the contest thread.
  • Anoymous submissions, submitted via PM.
  • Voting procedure not decided. Depends on the number of submissions, I guess.
  • Possibly some kind of prize. But not anything worth cheating for.

ps. Yeah, I'm doing this so that I can distract myself from the fact that there's a Lit-together going on, and I'm not there. ;)

I'm still interested and think 500 words would be fine. :)

I agree since it's "Flash Fiction" ~

The theme should be based upon the Love Shack Lit Together ~ LOL

Is there a theme or anything?
  • Some kind of theme, presented in the contest thread.

That's part of the challenge. Theme not presented until it's time to write. :)

But rest assured, it will be general enough for all styles. Not "Trapped In An Elevator With Dick Cheney".

Oooh...that so not nice....

I think a 24 hour deadline is too little time, assuming most people don't spend the entire 24 hours of every day online and with the writing juices flowing, and assuming you want a significant number of participants and texts of some quality, not just spur-of-the-moment.

Anyway, I'm in, if I can see the thread on time to write something worthy. ;)

That, as everything else, is open for debate. Got a good suggestion?

What a pity. I think I'll join in, too.

You could make it even trickier...PM the person and tell them the day it begins and the deadline for them...That's is a challenge in itself...

Give a good 3 days...especially if it's over the weekend.

Unless the theme will be extremely tough, I can't imagine we can't do 500 words.

I wrote 100 words for that Happy Endings Contest Og talked about in 5 minutes...

3 days seems good to me. It should be a long enough time for people to see it and participate, and short enough for people to not forget about it.

Hi, Honey! :kiss::D

a tentative "yes" here. my daughter isn't well, so i might not have time to write it, but if i have the time,I'd like to give it a go :)

How about we get the theme on a Friday night, and the story must be done before Sunday's over?

No good for me...I can't do stories over the weekend.

This should be interesting - I have not written anything that short since my last year of college (creative writing) over a decade ago. I am pretty certain I will completely suck at this, but since it's anon, I have no qualms about the attempt. :D

And the timing should be fair to everyone: start it on a Thursday for those who cannot do it over the weekend, and end on Sunday; or make it Saturday through Tuesday. (Yes, I can count past 3 :p Shorten it a day if you are stuck on that number.)

Agreed, if nobody else wants to manage the thingy. I'm swamped this weekend.

Let's try this then:

Contest start: Sunday at 10 PM CET. That's Central European Time (or Civilized Exact Time, as I'd like to call it ;)) for you Americanos. Would mean 9 PM in London, 4 PM in the White House and 1 PM in California. Figure your own launch hour from that.

Deadline for entries: Wednesday at 10 PM CET.

Sounds acceptable?

Works for me. And we PM our entries to you when done, correct?
I assume that you'll post the theme at launch time.
Yep. Cleva gal.
