Quick Editing Question

I'm editing a story... my own, actually. Here's the question. When referring to a high school prom, is it lowercase or uppercase? I'm guessing that when it's used as a pronoun, such as the High School Prom, it would start with a capital "P'. But what about when referring to the prom? Uppercase or lowercase? Any help would be appreciated, I'd like to get it right. Thanks!

I'd stick with lower case except for proper names -- Sludgeville High School Prom, but high school prom, the prom, etc.
