Quick civics test

We hate DC? I honestly don't generally hear a lot of blind hate out here. Not like you hear directed at Cali in the midwest or at anywhere in the north from the south, for example.

I think Bear was talking about the higher percentage of Fed owned land out west and no one likes them there.

Yeah, I got that he was talking about out here. But honestly, I like that the Fed owns all that land. It's mostly parkland, after all, at least in California.

At least they take care of it and don't let the value drop. And they even let you play on it too, not too bad for the few bucks in taxes you pay for it.

What was that map that looked like lights representing urbanization? I still wonder why the outlines of the Great Lakes were so distorted.

All of which should explain to Europeans why the Western states hate D.C. so much. Nobody likes a landlord.
D.C. isn't the Landlord. We are. Government of the people, by the people and for the people. Federal land means we all own that land. D.C. merely manages it for us.

And while I've hated D.C. for many things, I've never hated them for managing those lands, not so long as they do it well. I want those parks taken care of; I want them to be there for future generations as they were for me.

I'd think as a bear you'd feel the same. There's little enough land for wildlife to roam free and live as it was meant to live.

Oh, I wasn't referring to my own feelings. I should have been more clear. The Sagebrush Rebellion has no followers in the East because they have very little to whimper about. It's the West that resents the fact that Teddy Roosevelt jerked their potential timber fortunes out from underneath them. Funny that both the Sierra Club and the Rebellion should have their roots in the same region.

Yup, California is bear heaven these days. I believe the wild population is upwards of 25,000 these days. That's a tripling since '82.

The urban, civilized population is a quiet little secret. ;)
