Thank you SimonDoom for your advice.

Can we play "what's my category?"

Quick Synopsis: A is overbearing bigshot who owns a bar that has "nearby" illegal gambling and prostitution, B is his son who manages the "front" for him. A has a habit of "paying" his barmaids and his son's girlfriends - which are usually the same group of people - for private shows. He ties them to a poster-bed in his office and forces orgasms usually for an audience.

BDominance and SubmissionM?

It would be a backstory to "the Epic" which is I/T, I hear those catagories don't mix well.

It is a stand alone so no mention of I/T would ever have to be made in ^^^ story.

Would referencing this story in opening to "the epic" be problematic.

Thanks All - Cathy

Well, first of all, before you ask any questions or take any advice about categories, you MUST read this: https://literotica.com/beta/s/love-your-readers-categories.

This is the Bible on Categories at Literotica. A key concept is that some categories "trump" others. If category A trumps category B and your story has both elements, it will go in category A even if you want it to go in B.

Incest is a trump category. If it has incest, it goes in incest.

What you might want to do is publish multiple standalone stories in a common "universe" and then you can publish them to different categories as necessary, and you won't get the griping from picky readers that you might otherwise get.

But remember, Incest always will have the biggest audience. By far.

WE WISH we had the kind of readership Simon has, so take our humble observations with a gain of salt.

We also love Texas Tall Tales, not just 'cause he's from the bestest state ever (well unless that is a Tall Tale) and generally agree with the wonderful story Simon linked.... But...

We really like a series in Ex/Voyeur, it has everything, Group Sex, BDSM, Incest (two sets of sisters, and mother-in-law* in about 4 different stories), Fetish, Hot Wife, First Time, Non Human, May/December... Every one is in E/V, well read and recieved, and except for the Incest, tagged accordingly.

We wrote a story where a 19 y/o boy home from college discovers his parents having kinky sex, he watches but dosen't participate, they never know. It was put in I/T because nudity is sex and watching is sex, so if you watch your parents have sex it's I/T.

It was TRASHED by the readers they felt cheated, so we rewrote it adding an 21 y/o sister that watches with him then they go back to his room talk about what they saw and make out, all were appeased.

And there is a Hot H story where a mom takes daughter to a sex shop on her 18th birthday, buys her a vibrator and later shows her how to use it - not in I/T.

*M-I-L is not incest... Well, we wrote a story where daughter, deals with a bratty newly divorced mother by having hubby spank her. Daughter ends up rewarding mom with hubby's services when she is good she directs but isn't present - we submitted it as E/V it's in incest (yeah, Taboo maybe but it isn't consistent)

I assume the term is used as in "Marvel (Comics) Cinematic Universe."

How is this done?

Since they are standalone stories, you don't need to do anything. All you are doing is using common characters and locations that link the stories together. Unlike a series, where it is necessary for readers to read the stories sequentially, these can be read without requiring any preface.

You could, for example, have an apartment building and various characters who live there become the MCs of their own stories. You can occasionally have one of them witnessing something that took place in another story, or something one MC witnesses becomes a subsequent story.

You could have a main series, but then have a standalone story featuring a minor character from your series. Casual readers on Literotica can read and enjoy these independent stories, but if they enjoy one then they may very well search your catalogue and be delighted to find more stories tied to the one they just read. Fans of your ongoing work will always be eager to read the next tale from your shared universe.

This approach also works well if you want to collaborate with other authors to write stories that are interconnected.

my recommendation is to use third person omniscient as the point of view rather than first person...

Some people don't agree, but this is the way most fiction writers do it.

If I were you I would strongly consider writing and publishing a short story first to get your feet wet here...

I came to the right place for good advice.

I am now envisioning a third person omniscient point of view. Starting with a series of short stories first to get some experience. Each short story being a character who lives in the "State of Mintario," (my universe) and are together the "backstory." When the "epic" is written it can reference that the "tavern owner," "sheriff," "judge," and "congressman" (to name a few) have their own stories like 'Mintario: Don the "OberLord"' and 'Mintario: My Congressman, my partner' at Literotica.

Two great ideas - thanks!

Version 2.0 of the story-side CP is supposed to let us group our stories manually, though that's in the far-flung future, most likely.

Add a note at the end saying how the story is connected to others, if they have a chronology, etc. I also tend to add a full timeline to my bio that lists all the connected stories and how they connect.

It's not perfect, but it's generally enough for those who are truly interested to figure things out. It will do the trick until we get full control over the display of our submissions page.

Here's the line I put in my bio for my Magic of the Wood stories:

Quick timeline for the "of the Wood" stories:

Steward,Daughter,Forever,Secret,Kindred,Heart,Beauty,Friend,Blessing

And an example of an end note for that series:

Hope you enjoyed my latest venture into the Wood. If this is your first time reading one of these tales, you can find a chronological listing of the stories in my author biography, if you'd like to take a deeper look at other characters you met in this story. For example, you can read about Terra and Nathan's romance in "Friend of the Wood".

I assume the term is used as in "Marvel (Comics) Cinematic Universe."
