Questions About Story Categories and the Top Lists

Hello, dear authors. Can you help me? My new story 'The Best Show Yet' (posted 1/6/00) has a big E stamped next to it. What does it mean? Does it mean I've won an Elephant or am getting Evicted or people think I'm Egotistical?

Also, that self same story has a score of 4.10 (its had 10 votes) but doesn't seem to be in any of the top lists. Is there a minimum number of votes before you qualify? How does it all work? Is there an indepth instruction manual staring me in the face somewhere that I've over-looked?

The little green E means that either Laurel or Manu thought enough of your story to make it an editor's choice.

You story should be on two of the top lists with a 4.10 rating.

Somewhere on page three or four of the all stories lists, and for the category shown at the top of the story when you open it. (top left of the page where it says:

"index : Incest : Santa's Naughty Aunt" or whatever category and title fits your story.)

For example, one of my stories is on the top list for Romance stories and and near the bottom of the all stories list. (#526 the last time I tracked it down.)

BTW, if your score were 4.50 or better, there would be a red H next to your story as well. That means it is a "hot" story.

Thanks for enlightening me, WH.

Oh, that's pretty cool. My bosom is fair swelling with pride now. :)

Aha, yeah I've found it. Number 42 in the group sex list and number 393 (page 6) of the All stories list. LOL Well, you've got to start somewhere.

The Best Show yet

Roger,
I read your story and I have to say it is very good. Like you I am new to Literotica and just feeling my way around right now. I just posted 3 stories and one poem and they are "pending."

I do not know what the letter "E" means. My personal opinion after reading your story would be "E" for Excellent. Of the few stories I have read so far on this site I would say your s ranks high. Great mood setting in that the reader feels he/she is actually there, in addition to well defined characters. Your attention and understanding to detail is very descriptive. You have a knack of being almost picturesque (sp?).

Just one man's opinion. Take care and just thought I would drop you a note. Anyways, Keep up the good work and looking fwd to reading more of your stories.

I, too, have a question Weird Harold, if you are still reading this.

I have two stories in particular -- The Sunpath, Romance, and Still Life with Teeth, Erotic Couplings -- that have a rating of 5.0, and E's, and are not on the top lists at all.

Is there a reason for that? Just wondering. All the fuss about it made me look. Sigh.

Stories need a minimum of ten votes to show on the top lists. The voice in the back of my head has three stories here, and only one has enough votes to qualify for the top stories lists.

Thanks for the kind words Kessler, and welcome to Literotica.

I'll look out for your stories. I just submitted chapter one of a Madonna story, 'Madonna: The REAL Girlie Show' today under the name Alexander Tzara.

(BTW - Weird Harold explained about the "E" up above.)

I just read 'Still Life With Teeth', CL. It's really excellent.

I was wondering what that E mean't as well
i was thinking, eclectic, excellent, or just plain excruciating......

got my hopes up!

I was reading this thread and saw Weird Harold mention "Santa's Naughty Aunt" and I thought it was an example of a story that was an editors choice. Looked for the little "e" and nothing! Oh well.

Oh, I wrote that story. Hope folks liked it!

I don't know about "folks", but I liked it. It just happened to be at the one I had open when I went looking for an example of the location line in the story file. I was too lazy to go looking for Roger's story to use it as an example.

Hey guys...listen, I just posted up a story too...Asia And Kamesha....ch.2 and it had a little H next to it...how cool! I finally figured out what that meant...ha ha...you do have all the answers WH.

scoring, letters, top spots???

I am new too, just posted a story in nonconsent category "The Mountain." Weird Harold obviously has the answers, could you tell me how you find out what you are scoring?
By the way I read "Best Show Yet" Roger, thought it was brilliant.

You have to go to http://www.literotica.com/stories/index.php and login through the link in the upper right of the page. The votes and average score are listed next to you story on that version of your author's page.

I'm making a Literotica FAQ page, which will have (among other things) explanations for the E's and H's and whatever other icons we add later. For now...

H - Hot. Appears on stories that have garnered at least 10 reader votes with an average of 4.5 out of 5.

E - Editor's Choice. A totally arbitary rating. It means we dug the story an awful lot. That's all. There are very good stories that I don't E, because I want to reserve it for ones that really make me react.

I wouldn't stress a ton over the E's. All they mean is that I liked it. I'm not the fucking Pulitzer committee, ya know? The H's mean that more people liked it enough to vote it highly. The best feedback, IMHO, is written comments from readers.
